English Premier League 2014-2015

Woah Arsenal played like piss today. Almost feel bad for Sunderland but at least Alexis can finish and is our only bright spot right about now.

alexis sanchez is seriously on another level compared to everyone else out there. he and ox worked so hard today. sanchez is pure class

Yup, continued right where he left off from last week. Good to see Walcott back as well; pleased with the performance!

Great signing. Easily top 3 in the EPL this offseason along with Cesc and Di Maria. If they can get a Khedira and a top striker, they will be very very good.

And a few more defenders so Monreal can quit playing fucking CB

gotta give credit though, monreal has done well at cb especially considering he was a fringe player at best for the last year.

Sanchez has unbelievable levels of energy. doesn't stop. and how many times today did he get clean away when he was marked by 3 or more defenders?

also a transfer rumor I love. Hugo Lloris to real Madrid. I say he should go. France's number one keeper needs to be playing for a top side.

^why so he can ride the pine and be sabotaged by the casillas hype machine? look what happened to diego lopez. they also have keylor navas as backup...

I don't understand that rumor either. Keylor Navas was one of the best if not THE best GK last year in La Liga. Don't try to fix something that isn't broken.

why is this thread so dead? maybe cause all the "big" clubs except Chelsea are underperforming so badly? :P

yes and no. its fucking depressing so i dont post much, i also just dont have a whole lot to say and forget about this thread all the time

Tried to get into Everton. I watched 4 or 5 games, but I just couldn't get into it. So I've gone back to watching my old favorite in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich. Despite the games all being in German, they are really fun to watch.

Still so early in the season, not much drama going on, WC hype has worn off for most.

Im more of a La Liga guy as they are my team so EPL fixtures don't change much for me.

Arsenal are shit. It's official. I want Klopp so bad at Arsenal, I've always supported Wenger but shit needs to change.

Really fun to watch as Bayern goes on to win every game by 4 goals. That league is disgustingly uncompetitive and its almost all Bayern's fault.

Probably has something to do with three quarters of their team being on The World Cup winning German team+ Robben.

Yeah, but the quality of play, overall, is higher than that of the PL, which makes it worth watching.

Had a nice essay and then my computer decided to crash so I'll shorten it.

yes.. that is exactly why, Liverpool makes me cry. I don't know how much Sturridge will help, but assuming he's somewhere near form it will be better than they are now.

Fuck Glen Johnson and Lovren. I like Moreno and Manquillo(too bad he's only on loan.)

oh and fuck Joe Allen.

Really? The bundesliga isn't competitive? Apart from Bayern, that is one of the most competitive leagues in Europe. Dortmund, are doing fantastically CL, yet were at the bottom of the table before today's game. This is the second best squad in that league yet they are just above the relegation zone. It's almost impossible for them to keep CL unless they actually win it or get something like 2.6 points on average from the remaining games. It sucks because I want them to do well and cement themselves in European football and keep Reus. If they don't get CL, I don't see him staying. 3 of the CL spots are completely up for grabs. It's about as competitive as the EPL with one clear winner, and the CL spots up for grabs.

As for EPL, all the big teams bar Chelsea and United dropped points this week. Sanchez is the only bright spot for Arsenal. Aguero for city, yet they aren't doing that bad apart from the last two fixtures. Liverpool has no bright spot other than the return of Sturridge. AS a Chelsea fan, I am happy.

I bet if Reus leaves he is only going to go one place...Bayern.

its a bet/joke between a friend of mine who is also an arsenal supporter. i know he would be a bit redundant. arsenal just need to get the defense sorted out. i like what theyre doing offensively (or trying to do) for the most part.

i doubt anyone here watches enough of either league to say which is more competitive overall but one thing is sure, the bundesliga title race is a farce. i also really doubt that the quality of that league is better, way more money in the premier league, more big name players.

and yet somehow the title always comes down to 2 or 3 teams who have spent a billion pounds to win it...

the reason people say the EPL is the best league in the world is because every dog has its day. last season chelsea lost the title because they lost to clubs like crystal place and villa. any team in the prem can beat any other team in the league on its day. like qpr drawing with city for example. you just don't get that in other leagues. the football is also more direct. its quicker and more physical. i wouldn't say its as glamorous as other leagues or more technical its just it always has you on the edge of your seat.

I'm hoping so much someone like Southampton sneaks into CL or even Europa. They are amazingly self-sustaining, always produce great players and still have played fantastic even after getting their entire team bought by the bigger clubs. How can you not like them?

I would like that too, so long as it didn't come at the expense of arsenal...

but even if they made it, they'd probably face the usual problems of a new smaller club making it in. They'd have to commit to one front, so either their domestic or international form would suffer and inevitably they wouldn't qualify again and would fall to midtable mediocrity

Maybe, but the small-name players in England are much, much worse than the small-name players in the Bundesliga, and most of the other big leagues in Europe.

Yes you do, they're just in smaller and/or poorer countries.

you could have at least provided an example for your outlandish claim. here's one, adel taraabt doesn't even get a look in for fucking qpr and yet he did quite well for italian giants ac milan

What example am I supposed to provide? It's way too easy for both of us to find examples to cancel out other examples. For example: Michu was a small name player until he left La Liga and went to the EPL where he was incredibly successful in his first year with Swansea and has become, if not a big-name player, then at least a medium-name player. Likewise, Yaya Toure, who got played out of Barca's team, went to Manchester City and became arguably the best CM in the entire epl. See? We could do this all day.

Point is, I would guess at least 80% of people who who actually watch a decent amount of non-epl soccer and aren't epl biased and actually have a respectable knowledge of the game would agree that the smaller name players outside of England are better than those who play in England. It's not an outlandish claim at all.

Couldn't be more outlandish. The small teams in England are better than most continental small teams. It's got nothing to do with individual players making a big name in a different country. There are numerous other influences like age, manager, their personal comfort, etc.

Also, don't start that jibber-jabber about respectable knowledge of the game. That only highlights your ignorance.

I disagree. I think there is a conception that mid to lower level English teams are better than their continental counterparts because people who follow the epl have heard of those teams and the players on those teams and haven't heard of players on the less famous continental teams, and so make the assumption that the English teams and players must be better because they have heard of them. All this is just a result of the EPL being much more commercialized than other leagues and marketed to a primarily English-speaking audience, which, obviously, the French, Spanish, Italian, and German leagues are not. I don't personally think it's a coincidence that, since the turn of the century, only two English teams have won the Europa league, and those two teams were Liverpool and Chelsea, who aren't exactly small fish.

I agree about other influences making things click, hence the reason I was the one saying that trying to use examples to prove this is kind of silly.

As far as knowledge goes, I've heard people who only watch a few epl games a year talk about how much better it is than any other league, but couldn't name a single player on a team like Juventus. I don't know about you, but I don't personally hold the opinion of a soccer "fan" who can't name anyone on the champions of Italy in high regard.

Yet these "Small" epl teams fail to perform in the Europa League whereas their spanish, German, Italian and French counterparts all outperform them. The EPL is way overrated. I would say it has the strongest midtable, arguably, but the small teams are much worse than the Spanish and German small teams.

ok crystal palace is 17th just outside of the relegation zone. i would love to see whatever fuckoff team in spain in the same positinn go there and win. no chance.

your knowledge of the premier league is getting in the way again, based on the fact that you don't even know who's in a similar position in any of the other leagues. Just because you don't know the teams offhand doesn't mean they aren't good. It just means you don't watch them.

i'd say a lot of lower table continental teams could go to crystal palace or wherever and win. it's not like the English 17th is the equivalent of 2nd in every other league.

you guys are so full of shit pretending you watch every single euro league, youre all from usa which gets mostly epl coverage. top to bottom it's the best league in the world. MAYBE la liga has a claim because they have solid 1-8 clubs but all you almeria and granada supporters would know know better than i do.

Wilshere da fuck man put that away. Really like that arsenal have started but they really need to get a goal.
