Ok - so Saturday is going to be epic, England vs USA in the World Cup - last time England lost to the USA in a competitive World Cup Game was 1950 - can you do it again?

Where are you all watching the game?

We've booked out a huge bar, opening at 8:30am serving Bacon and Eggs (for the English Fans) and Breakfat taco's for the americans.... I'm planning on getting on it early doors and having a huge all day session...

Prediction:

England 3 - USA 0

make your predictions, then come back here after the event to claim / shame....

I'm worried by our (england's) lack of ability to win opening games at big tournaments thus i fear a draw... but not losing to America... I wouldn't be able to live with myself if we lost... so... all aboard the Hype train!

I'd love to see USA pull it off, and there's a chance, but i'm still not sure. I have to go to my grandmother's 80th birthday party though so I don't know if I'll be able to watch it live FML

To be honest, it doesn't matter who wins. Hopefully both advance out of the group. Then they will play either Germany, Ghana, Serbia, or Australia.
But my guess is 1-1. Tie. I know, boring prediction but I think it will be low scoring, with USA taking the lead early, then England scoring late in the game.

I'd have to end it all....

There is pride at stake here... and being English and living in America... the Shit i'd have to take.... that's my nightmare right thur....

USA is gonna take it, we are just more hungry to make a name for our Country in Soccer.

Altidore is a damn beast! Kid is only like 21 years old and knows how to make plays.

I can foresee Rooney crying to the refs because we are gonna be kicking his ass!

depends...

If you play 5 at the back, and mark Rooney out of the game, and keep it real tight... .I could see a draw.... which would be a great result for the states and put pressure on us to win the group. I do NOT want england to finish second, because I don't want to play Germany in the next round (assuming they'll walk their group...)

I am betting, and I have 20 dollars on Germany. I was going to put 50 down, but then Ballack got injured

England 2-1 USA

It won't be a blow out, that's for sure...the US defense will hunker down and Rooney won't accomplish much....I'll go out on a limb and say he won't even score.

I think the game will be similar to the US/Spain match in the Confed Cup....Spain dominating possession, unable to crack the US defense, but the US will capitalize on their chances counterattacks with their speed up top with Altidore, Dempsey, and Edson Buddle/Robbie Findley.

Hopefully, Buddle and Findley will be able to recreate the success that Charlie Davies had.

ABC i think.... main stream..... 1:30pm CST kick off i believe....

c'mon Mighty England!!

Question, was the last time they met in the 50's even a World Cup game? I know that that is for sure the last time the two teams played, but America didn't really start showing up at the Cup till like the 80's so I thought that game might have been from something else.
As a British citizen living in America I basically win either way. Plus Slovenia and Algeria are the other teams in the group so at least we know they'll both advance.
England has a better squad and better chances for victory, but England is pretty good at losing games you think they are probably going to win, and America recently like the last 4 or 5 years has had a pretty cool habit of beating teams that you absolutely think they will lose against (except Brazil, fuck that game pissed me off so much, what were we up by like...3 points? And then lost)
Either way, should be a legit game. The King's Head which is basically the best pub in LA sold tickets and has been sold out for weeks. If you don't have a ticket I don't think you can get in to the pub all day. Its going to be nuts.

I think you have it the other way around - the last time they met in World Cup play was 1950, but they have played each other since.

Ok I just wikipedia'd it. The reason I got confused is because that was a Cup game, but then America didn't qualify for another World Cup until 1990, so thats where i got that from.

Dumb question... I don't know much about the different teams but what are Japan's chances? Last time they were in a grouping with Brazil and were bent over the chair because of it. Right now they are with Cameroon, Denmark, and the Netherlands.

I think The Netherlands are good and Denmark is pretty decent as well. Cameroon probably sucks because I can't even think of what continent its on haha.

Honestly, if you've paid attention to soccer at all in the last 5 years then you'd know it doesn't really matter how hungry a team is when their team is so clearly outmatched.
England 3 - USA 0

Yeah honestly Japan probably won't get through. Denmark usually sucks but so does Japan and this year Denmark is looking a little better than usual. Netherlands were undefeated in qualifying i believe. Japan is most likely better than Cameroon though I think they barely qualified.

wait....im thinking of a certian Confederations cup game where we beat Spain and almost beat Brazil...are you telling me the US wasn't outmatched by Spain and BRazil?

This match has significant meaning to me. I, being from the US, and my roommate, from England, have decided to make a bet after much shit talking.
If England wins, he demands:- I pay for bottles at his club of choice
If US wins, I demand:- He gets his room wallpapered with American Flag wallpaper which he cannot change or cover for the entirety of our lease and American Flag bedding.
GO USA!

I'm hoping England wins I'm just pointing out that you can't count USA out. They have no chance of actually winning the cup but Spain is not the only upset win we have had lately.
But fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck I wish we would have beat brazil. They've been pissing me off since they knocked England out in 2002.

Hey now it came down to penalty kicks didn't it? That not bad against Brazil in 2002 when they had been owning everyone's face for the last 8 years.
