I fully understand that this is cheesy/lame, but i figure i may as well use every networking feature available to me.

I'm moving to Hillsboro next fall (girlfriend got into grad school) and i'm checking to see what the job climate is like in the area for Civil Engineers. I have 2 yrs experience working with a private firm up here in alaska, have my BS degree, and my EIT license, along with some other bullshit training.

thanks in advance!

i thought i was clear about that in the OP, but a civil engineering EIT position. and yes, i'll prob be shredding hood. assuming i find a job.

haha, i don't have much of a choice. i hear that the nickname for it is "hillsburrito", but thats where my lady friends school is. any better portland suburbs?

what school is it?i would live in nw portland if possible.hillsboro is:-the farthest city in the metro area from the mountain-on highway 26, the worst traffic to portland, the mountain, everywhere-there is no nightlife, there is no daylife-if you surf, you are the closest city to the beach
i grew up in portland, i had a few close friends who lived in hillsboro, we spent the majority of our time trying to get away from hillsboro. if you have to live there, good luck, there is great mountain biking in Leif Erikson Park, otherwise you are adding about an 1+ hour drive to the mountain each way and living in the arguably the worst city in the portland metro area. hate to be bummer, but i would want someone telling me this if i didn't know the portland area.

Lol, dang dude thats pretty harsh. Its not like there shootings and shit out there all the time. Rockwood is a shittiest place in the portland area by far.

its not about the violence, its about living. what does one do on an average day in hillsboro? where do you walk? where are bars? where are the homies? where is the scene? where is the culture? how far is hood again? where is the easy drive to spot? hillsboro is by most definable criteria, a real lame place to live. and again, i grew up in portland and had friends who lived in hillsboro, they always seemed to be begging to get out of there, and no one, i mean no one i know has ever returned to live in hillsboro after they left.

there is a sonic drive in....... thats about t...
even though iam gettin a job out there.. one shitty commute from west linn to there. but it pays great

the school she is going to is Pacific University, and the school of OT is in Hillsboro. The other students have told her to get a spot in HB because it's the cheapest, which is probably my biggest point as well. As far as a "scene", i'm aight with there being no scene, my days of going to the bars and getting shitfaced are behind me.

The biggest point of this thread was to try and network to see if anybody or anybody's parents worked at an engineering firm in or around Portland, because I can't move unless i find a job haha.

Whatsup man I'm a CE student at OSU. there are a good amount of CE jobs in the Portland area. Shoot me an e-mail at norrisp AT onid.orst.edu saying you're from ns and I'll try and send you the lists of companies that we get from the university

You shouldn't have trouble finding work as an engineer in Hillsboro as there are tons of engineering firms out that way (I am an electrical engineer, did a stint at Intel as an intern). But as everyone else has said in this thread it is probably the worst location to live in terms of commute to Mt. Hood.
