Encourage use of gear reviews to clean up gear talk

It has come to my attention that Gear talk, one of my favorite forum sections, is slowly deteriorating into more of a "place to chat" than a legit forum, basically everyone asks personal recommendations on gear, 90% of the answers given to them are based on reviews or simple facts that can be found on google in less than 0.37 seconds...

Allow me to give an example:

Armada alpha 1 vs salomon twentytwelve vs line blend

or

Caylor, jj, s7 or opus

(these are all legit threads)

In all these threads i feel like i'd get a lot more info by just reading reviews of those skis than listening to people bickering about what's the best ski for the OP, while the OP hasn't probably even given us all his information (heights, weight, skiing style, personal preference, location, etc...)

+ i'm sure that 90% of NS will tell that On3p is quality and for example HEAD is crap, while they probably haven't even ridden both skis, or are basing their comments on 1 good/bad experience with these brands, probably not even on the skis that they're talking about right then ...

or another one; "where should i mount my skis?"

if we have a good base of reviews where people also list their heigh/weight and mounting spot we can build up a really valuable database...

Or how big is an xl oakley fari jacket ?

-> an accurate review could easily help the op out ...

anyways, i'm gonna stop here, i think you get my point.... now we just need to find a way to direct more traffic away from GT and into Gear reviews...

Sparknotes:

NS has a great gear review system set up that could answer a lot of the geartalk threads, we just need to find a way to direct more traffic there, and have more people write good reviews about their gear ....

thank jah I am not the only one to see the fuckin cluster fornicate that has become gear gabber.

I have been blessed to ski a lot of gear and while some posts may not make total sense. I am done trying to give solid based on years of irl experience strong posts and advice until an attempt to catagorise or some way stop those clueless n00bs from starting endless the mother fuckin answer is in the god damn sticky threads and giving the + k happy e-endings for shit answers based on little or no irl experience thread.

The n00bsWhacker will be whackin moles until a effort to unfuck gear gabber is made.

I already have you max k if you come to wasangles free demo skis 4 U 4 making an attempt to increase the geartalk community knowledge base to make that forum useful aside from look at me in my ski gear in my parents house.

90 % of the time there is a Mod online. I think, this is a fantastic Idea, but leads to my idea of "Pre approved" Threads. everytime you make a thread, it should have to be approved by a Mod. on its appropriateness, accuracy and relevance.

I'm not saying everyone should require "Pre Threading" clearance. but for example your first 10 - 20 threads should be scanned.

This would significantly reduce the amount of "Junk" NS is currently hosting.

A perfect example is located here. https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/641593/

A Girl, clearly everyone must rate Karma a 10+ and its her FIRST POST.

She couldn't go onto the Armada website, and read for 3 seconds, which is all it took me to go and check my argument. All her answers are on the webpage.

Lucky she got the correct sub forum I guess.

Anyways. Peace out. would love to hear you're ideas.

I think this is a great idea, but i also think people like kangbang ruin it by being biased and rating their favorite companies products all 10/10.

first of all, it doesn't have to be better, however, basically half of the threads in GT are basically asking for opinions/reviews of gear, so imho they don't belong there, and the OP should just do his/her work and look up reviews, not ask us how 2 skis compare to eachother, or how tall an xl saga is, they should just look up reviews and in return, owners should post more reviews of their gear ....

i know we're far from it right now, but imho that's the best way for this site to evolve to ....

that's why you don't just take in the score of a product, imho a good written review or a list of + and - point or some specifications are alot more valuable than just hey, i rate my skis 10/10 !

the fact that a score is implemented in the gear review section is understandable, but imho most of the time completely useless ....

Do you get karma for writing reviews?

I an conductin an important social media karma mission and can only post or do things to lower the k

like n00bs whackins

I will write a few dps moment and pm gear reviews but not if there is + k invoved it will scewer my datas.

Please help ungabber gear gabber e heath is practicin pro ball washing and the N00bs whacker can not possible keep up with the n00b stupidity to be able to search the etubez for 411

how about you write up reviews and i'll rate you down from 10 to 0 ? so your karmziez go down instead of up ? :)

that would also scekwer my data

I think if ns wants to attract more experience skiers to give quaility input and answers they need to make an attempt to stop the 12 3/4 yo retardothread bullshit organize gear swap into useable sections with flashing stickeys or you must read the stickey before starts the thread.

I am pretty sure I know as much as anyone here in the area of alpine touring ansnd snow safety avvy gear and ski techin

but Im not going to waste time with my years of experiencr with dipshits that want to argue with the messenger and not bother with the imo message.

The n00bs whacker doesnt give a fuck what 4 chan meme circus of prepuberressent teen tardness goes down in ns

but for I am gods sake please try to unfuck gear gabber and build a useable knowledge base like more adult ski forums

i have no problem that there are a majority of "12y olds" on here, but i think it's the responsibility of moderators to keep this place tight and be a platform for kids to be introduced to freeskiing and everything around it....not a platform to 4chan or useless clutter ....

if you want a more mature freeskiing forum, maybe TGR is better, but NS is definately more youth oriented, and i think that's perfectly fine!

however some mature adult moderation won't harm these virgin souls :)

Definitely a good idea. Maybe change up the review format so it has a section for specs. It would decrease people asking for zipper lengths and would give a solid review. I don't think anybody that us writing a review would mind checking the length or whatever when they write it

head makes some of the most durable skis on the market....kids here are just pussies that can't handle a stiff ski

maybe should've said ninthward or something instead of head, but yeah, pretty much most companies make quality shit right meow, things have changed :)

but anyways, that wasn't the point i was trying to make ....

here is your dps lotus 120 flex 3 and l138 flex2 rocker 3.1 review

/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

they fuckin slay the pow

138's = a bitch to skin unless your breakin trail or mellow up

I don't dig made in china

Marshall their dealer rep= solid bro

the rest of the crew not sure

dont do ratings but 10/10 in pow

A mod should review a written review. If serious and good enough the poster should get a good amount for Karma. And people reading it should be advised to rate the poster as well.

NS would become even more attractive if we could find many gear reviews on it !

well, start off by writing reviews of your own gear! it doesn't have to be super long and in detail, altough that is always cool, but even a short word about it can help someone make up his/her mind !

This is the thread I have been waiting for all my life!

I loved gear talk, but now it's "what jiberish" "armada AR7s or Halos" when they give you 0 information and it's a huge repost.. I'll admit, I've made a thread asking to help me decide between Filthy Riches and Halos, but I gave all of the necessary information. I also googled first.

I can't stand gear talk anymore.
