What's everyone think of it? I really like some songs but i can't stand listening to a whole CD of emo for long. Coheed and Cambria is sweet

this just in. we have a new word. it's called emo. people like this word. it's hip and new and mysterious. from now on, we are going to call all sorts of things emo. from now on, everything that we used to call punk, well we're gonna call it emo now. have you heard new found glory? they're so emo. also, from now on, everything we used to call pop is emo. have you heard avril levigne's new song? it's so emo. she's especially emo, cause she's mad and she dresses weird. rock is now emo too. have you heard coheed and cambria? so emo. rush? emo. bruce springsteen? very emo. one more thing... everything that american youth values and appreciates shall hence forth be known as emo. snowboarding is very emo right now.

In case you guys were too narrow minded to find out what em is and means itstands for Emotional punk. And its the showing of pure raw emotion through song and i think thats sweet.

 
and coheed and cambria along with Thursday,Saves the day,Bright eyes,etc. show this emotion in their songs

dude. A TON of songs have 'pure raw emotion' in every genre of music. if that's the definition then there's 'emo' in country, rock, folk, rap, dance, trance, jazz - everything. emo's just a catch word to describe songs where you can hear the emotion blatently. Every song out there has emotion in it - how do you expect to label the ones that have a bit more than others? why do you want to?.

Lemmi explain...of course every style of music has emotion.. thats 100% true.. but tehre is a certain genre labeled 'emo' ..short for emotional punk.. lately influences from indie rock have changed the style of emo, but the genre consists of a certain style of music that is seperate from hardcore, punk, and everything else.. it goes like this..ROCK/ALTERNATIVE/EMO ..real simple..other spinoffs from alternative are indie, hardcore, punk, grunge, ect. hope this clears some stuff up

it stands for emotional punk now? in the mid-eighties it was short for emocore, which was short for emotional hardcore, which refers to certain bands in the hardcore scene (DC hardcore, for the most part) like 'rights of spring' started to experiment with more personal lyrics and new vocal styles. mostly a screaming/crying/out-of-breath type thing, but its roots were still firmly in hardcore. then it went away. i guess it stands for emotional punk now. i didn't get that memo. but alot of people are using the word to describe any kind of 'emotional punk' or whatever. saves the day, for example, which some people would like to call emo bears zero resemblance to anything emo. the timing, the chords, the vocals etc. have no roots in emo. they just sing about emotional subjects. but most artists do.

correct...the original emo is really just called scremo now.. the genre of emo changed.
