Electronic music in the US vs. Elsewhere

haha okay, here's a story proving this

brute school dance tonight, everyone was dancing to really shitty music as most high school students do, like G6, shots, and other shitty ass songs. i requested they play some daft punk so they played one more time and everyone went nuts because its a super mainstream song. after that i told them to play some rusko so they wove in woo boost later in the night and EVERYONE except me and 3 other kids stood completely still in the center and had no fucking idea what to do with dubstep

crying about dumbstep huh? maybe you're the ones with bad taste. listening to that talentless jawn, pressing a bunch of buttons on your board in a row for how many cycles to whatever you think sounds good to complete your dumb show.

people who create dumbstep were probably really good at this game when they were younger,

and they weren't dancing because it probably wasn't dark enough. people only dance like that at dumbstep shows because its dark and no one can see what you look like when you're dancing like a drunk zombie retard.

People in the US don't like electronic music because electronic music from the US sucks. Only British electronic music is good generally except for a few exceptions. All US Dubstep sucks. Dubstep is whatever anyway but all of it I like came from England. England also has all the good DnB. Most Trance and House sucks but all the good stuff comes from weird places like Holland (Laidback Luke, etc). Actually I can't think of a single US electronic group that I like off the top of my head. The rave cultures in European countries are also generally older and better. And E is way cheaper. People in Europe drive around bumping House instead of Rap. Its just bigger over there.

are you saying electronic music in general? because i think you should replace england with france

us has a couple decent people, i like skrillex

Well most good electronic music is DnB and all the good DnB comes from England. But the point was its not coming from America so if you think France is best because you listen to Daft Punk that still holds true.

daft punk, kavinsky, and justice despite being mainstream are just so awesome that i can't discredit fwwaaance

And what song was that out of interest? Experience? Comin On Strong? Spliffhead?
Also I like Daft Punk pretty good I've seen them a couple times at festivals it was fun.

This song:

Same goes for early Hip hop, and jungle music.

This is an extremely important song. Listen from 1:26 to 1:33 and see if it sounds familiar. Thats called the Amen Break and is considered the most important drum break in the world. A lot of music as we know it today was shaped because of this song. Go look it up if you want more information on it.

those basslines are gonna fight back and kick the shit out of you once you man up and hear it on a propa system.

Yeah here in melbourne most of the clubs play Dubstep, hard techno/electro and some hardstyle and shit goes off. I dont really see that being open to 6am is so special as most clubs here are open later, like my normal one is open till 10am and i know of another that's open till 2pm and i think there is also a 24 hour one.

This is all a matter of opinion. I personally Hate DnB. I went to the world electronic music fest years back and from this understand there is a HUGE worldly following for it but I think it sucks. If people dont think the US has good DJs then they're sorely mistaken. They are just super underground. Our mainstream shit is... well... mainstream. Underground electronic wide spread in the united stated died in the 90s and there are few places that still try to hold onto it. Where you're introduced to electronic seems to have a huge part of what type you are into. I love house... But house owns the Detroit scene, and has for years & years.

People didn't like it because electro because it's just a bunch of computer generated noises looped endlessly. Listen to some real music.

sorry, G6 and shots are much better, i'll dance to those from now on and to be ironic when they say 'shots shots shots' i'll pretend to do shots each time they say it!!!!

Wolfgang Gartner 5th Symphony.

Some pretty good electro house, at least for my taste.

to say that music made with machines is not music. it takes a human to make the music.. its not like the machine got up and did it on its own.. i think this little snippet from pink floyd will back me up.

/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngthis is euro dance at its fucking best! and yes this is euro cause la bouche is from germany

I like it cause electronic music sucks but DnB has MC's so its kinda like really aggressive fast rap, and its full of reggae influence. I do like me some DJ Yoda, Stanton Warriors, Laidback Luke and stuff but most electronic music is pretty stupid.

When I saw dnb live they didn't have mc's and most of it was heavy towards the jungle scene. I do own a mixologists cd that has mc's and I do like that alot so I take back my "hate" statement and I'll say that I dislike 90% of it out there. But again, this being said, I probably haven't heard enough to really justify that statement either. I'm from the D & its so house oriented that you really don't get a lot of other genres.

your music sucks, i wanted to shoot myself watching the poorboyz movie when i got it, and i would rather sit around with no music playing than any sort of dubstep that anyone tries to put on in front of me, at a party or not.

if im at a party and i hear a song that sounds good beat wise, and its mainstream, im not just gonna say "fuck this gimme an american spirit and some light jazz"

im gonna fucking dance

Try checking out DJ Zinc, he's an oldschool DnB dj that started doing house, he calls it crack house.
I'm surprised you saw live DnB sets and there was no MC. A lot of purists hate MC's but I think they add a lot to it, especially live. And live sets are usually better than albums anyway.

Fuck that dude. Ive just accepted some people just dont like dubstep. I personally dont like lil wayne or really anything that has been on tha radio. Who cares if others dont get down. Find those who do, aqcuire drugs, turn the lights off and turn the music up

You're correct. It started back in the 1900's in italy and the first place it hit in the US was in NYC...

I correct my statement with: Detroit started "techno"... where the term was publicly used for the first time in 1988. Where the 3 founders of this genre (which is comonly confused with the general term of "electronic") started making music in early 80s when Juan Atkins and his crew started mixing Disco, cause disco didn't really find a home in Detroit. Derrick May's popularity spread to Chicago and infected the house scene there by the last of the 80s. The music picked up huge over seas & these guys decided they were more fitting into the house genre but stuck with the word "techno" for music that sounded like technology.

my bad.

I've always thought that the music you like kinda displays you as a person. So people who share music tastes are more likely to see eye-to-eye on so many things. Maybe part of the reason that so many stereotypical skiers have similar music taste? It's really interesting how much one's music taste reflects who they are.
But anyways, if you play electronic stuff at a party and people don't like it, you're at the wrong party. I'm in BC and there are still too many parties where nothing but mainstream top 40 type tunes are played. But since that's not my style of music, and the people who like it generally aren't my preferred type of people to party with, I find other parties/club nights with electro house/trance/dubstep music playing. You just need to look around for new parties or new people to party with if you want electronic stuff. Or just accept that they're into different music than you and keep listening to all that shitty rap at parties.

ha same here dude..First week in our new house we hosted many parties. The same playlist played over and over. Same mainstream songs that everyones heard 1000 times. So im like f this noise lets get some real shit playin. electro dub etc. my roommates wer like d00d noone knows these songs!!1!11

they wer even saying it for like chiddybang wiz other decent hiphop. How the hell do you not know these common artists. some peeps wer lik hellz yea. Most wer lik diz shit suckz. then i put back on shit like teach me how to duggy or however you spell it, and the place was ragin again. i was ashamed
