El Nino is coming!

Looks like the pattern is going to open up this weekend... storm is supposed to spin down out of AK and BC and give us some good snow... which will then be followed by a storm with so much energy (thank you, strong typhoon season), that it will undercut the omega block high in the gulf of alaska and slam RIGHT into Tahoe and the central sierras.

it looks like this will give us upwards of a week of consistant snow potential... starting sunday and going all the way through the 13th or 14th, the jet stream will be sitting right over northern california...

Some models are predicting as LOW as 8 inches of precipitable water, and some as HIGH as 19 inches of precipitable water. Seeing as about 1 inch = 1 foot of snow, we could have 8-19 feet of snow out of this thing come mid-december. Since I'm pessimistic about overexagerrated models, you should expect a good 7 or 8 feet of snow by the end of it - something I will be SO stoked on.

LEGIT STORM WOO HOO!

YEEEEAAAAHHH! I saw the article on Tahoeloco/weathergeek, and I'm frackin' stoked! Lets get this party starteeeeeed!!

id be happy with like 4 feet but ill take 18. haha . i just want enough for my home mountain to open

FUCK YES! I am pretty sure Sierra Summit is in the central Sierra region. Regardless, sounds like we're getting shat on for this time of year. I'll take seven feet, and no doubt that I will take 19. Whole mountain will open and early season park will be fucking incredible.

careful if you are headed anywhere past the ropes or out back. this storm is supposed to be uspide-down and could mean some very sketchy conditions.

I'm going to have to come down and host a demo there soon...

god I wish i had more time to host demos and shit...

be prepped to see me this march and april when boone unleashes the new graphics.

Sweet. We've actually got a fair amount of regular park skiers. Probably around 15-20 which is great for our mountain. When's soon? Hit me up and we can take a few laps! Our park is improving. We got a new manager and he has his shit on lock. He built some sweet new rails/jibs and I'm not sure on what we'll be seeing as far as jumps. Sierra Summit is getting better though!

I know theres a industry demo going on this saturday the 12th up there that I was considering, but it could be in the middle of a straight blizzard, so I'm probably holding out on my plans for that one...

I'll be posting demo days on booneskis.com soon. January and February are possible though... I just dont want to run a bunch of season demos and then have to do mad base repairs like I had to last year.

ya unfortunetly it looks that way but atleast i wont have to skin miles to get to good snow like it has been the last couple little storms.

Bad and good news...

Bad news? 19 feet? totaaaally overstated estimate by everyone a week ago... in fact.. 10-12 would be overstated. least for this upcoming week.

Good news? SNOW IS COMING REGARDLESS, and a really good powdery one at that. Not that we really WANT an upside-down situation with light snow right now, but snow is snow, so who's going to bitch, really? 20-30" expected over 7000' out of this cold, dry, canadian inside slider... should be pretty damn sick, too, because it's about 25 degrees here, and I live down by Sac... Tahoe's gotta be in negative right now or something.

as for the big, heaving, wet dump that's going to lay down our base? It's coming... but right now the pacific is reacting in such a way that the forcast models are not agreeing anywhere near as well as they did even a day ago. The jet path should still be somewhere over california, but it might be leaning further south... and giving places like mammoth and june a nicer base... or even the resorts way down by LA might be getting a good dumping, too, depending... Either way, nobody can predict when and how much yet, but it's safe to say that more is coming for sure, and in droves.

Northern and southern california are definitely going to benefit from this current low pressure system chillin out over the area... after tahoe and mammoth get upwards 3 feet, it's going to gain energy over the pacific as it slides out... and probably dump down on the San Gabs too before heading out east.

^ my thermometer showed a low of 13 last night and its currently 26 in meyers [s. lake].
maybe i'll get some pics if it starts snowing hard enough this evening.

NOAA's prediction for monday evening. looks like it will be pretty close to the models after all [if it goes down this way]. i never really thought 10-19 feet was gonna happen. calling for 2-3 in the tahoe area.
