Edmonton freezeway

Edmonton is debating on whether they should make an 11km loop of iceskating rink for both traveling to work and just for fun. sounds pretty fun and itd cut down on car traffic.

yeah its kindof a bizarre idea, but it also would easily provide economic and environmental benefits and encourage people to be healthier.

I don't see why they wouldn't. If there's that much ice then it's hardly different than a bike path, except more people will be busting their asses on the ice.

Yes. And in Winnipeg they turn part of the red river that runs though the city into a skating path. I don't think you can really commute on it but it's like 6km of trail. In my city we have a bunch of skating paths that are pretty awesome to. It would definitely be sweet to commute and get around by skating.
