Editing Software Question

Ok, so I have 2 questions about some editing software, and forgive me if I come off sounding retarded. Im still new, but is there any good ramping software out there available for a PC? I mean when done correctly, it comes out looking sweet. Is after effects the program that you people usually use? Is that a PC program? Also for slomo shots, is there a program that you can slow clips down through that will make them appear smoother instead of so 'tickey'? i mean i film with an fx1, and it does a good job. i use sony vegas studio 8 ( i think its 8), and even when im filming at 2000 fps it doesn't really seem that i can really slow it down that much before its starts not being smooth anymore. or is this more because im using a cheap program?

and i know i need to upgrade to a mac, im just broke as hell so its going to be a little while. so if youre going to tell me to get a mac and then get final cut, thank you, i know.

so have at it! what do i need to do? oh and feel free to also suggest any higher grade pc editing software that i should be looking into

well adobe premiere is a sweet program that is nearly as good as final cut and works on pc's. after effects is more for...well after effects so you probably wouldnt make an entire edit using that. this all costs a buttload though so id go ahead and use torrents to get it for free (plenty of threads on how to)

as for the slow motion, it might be that you're shooting in progressive rather than interlaced, but if not then i have no clue!

first of all you dont need a mac, you can to plenty well on pc. its personal preference

your not shooting 2000fps. i dont know if the cameras on time warp shoot 2000fps. your probs shooting with a shutter speed of 1/2000 sec. shutter speed affects the ammount of light that enters the camera and how much motion blur. your camera is still shooting 30 or 60 fps. I did think that it was possible to shoot 120fps for a couple seconds on an fx1, not sure.

for smooth slow mo, it depends what blending mode you are using. some programs repeat frames, some mix frames. after effects and premiere have effects called time warp that allow you to repeat or blend frames, and also lets you use something called pixel motion where it anilizes your video to make the slow mo. works well if your shots arent too complicated.

Yes. After Effects is the industry standard ramping software. There's an effect called "time remapping" in AE that does ramping very nicely. There are also several plugins that are devoted to ramping, but I've never used anything except time remapping.

After Effect's frame blending is also pretty solid for smoothing out moderate slowmo. There's also a plugin for AE called Twixtor that has become incredibly popular in the past year that can smooth out shots that have been slowed to as low as 8fps. It costs $400-600 depending on the version, but its motion estimation is unbeatable.
