Editing Software Help

So I already have a software for my photos. But now I need a software for film to make edits. I am not looking to spend to much money. Any suggestions?

I am filming on a canon t2i

It will help to have some more information. Windows or Mac? What is the most money you would spend? Would you be willing to pirate the software?

If you are willing to pirate, get Premiere. It's not at all difficult to get it.

If you don't want to pirate, get iMovie. You might already have it but if not, it's only 15 dollars.

For someone starting out, I'd highly recommend to just get iMovie. It really isn't that bad. If you got a professional editing software, odds are you wouldn't even use it for anything iMovie can't do for quite some time. Most of the time, unless you're making a professional movie/edit, iMovie will get 95% of the job done anyway.

Adobe Creative Cloud - Every software adobe makes, $250 a year for student. Well worth the money

Agree, if you don't want all the programs you can get just premiere for $20 a month if you want to try it out

DO NOT USE IMOVIE!!!! You can get great edits out of imovie yes... the software does not dictate your product. But i swear apple makes things so complicated that you buy final cut. Imovie does not make scenes and makes things way harder. I highly recommend adobe premier pro. It is simple and works the way it should. IMOVIE IS NOT AN OPTION. Thins in there are way harder to do then they should be.

Casey Neistat uses iMovie 6 for everything. He is a well paid successful man with an HBO show and various Nike commercial's under his belt.

To say iMovie is not an option is ludicrous, especially when it concerns a teen making a home video to impress his peers with.

I am not saying that you cant produce great work with imovie. But it is so stupidly laid out and complicated that to me does not seem like an option to start editing on. It will make the simplest of things way harder. If it is the only resort then yes it has to be an option. But to me it does not make sense to shoot yourself in the foot with editing software. Its already frustrating enough. There is no need to make it more frustrating by having poorly designed software.

That being said, imovie can make great videos. Just as good as any editing software. But i would NEVER use it. I cant handle the interface at all. It does not make sense. I am giving OP my opinion so he really knows the downfalls of imovie. If you have never edited anything other than imovie he wont mind it... But the second you trie something else it will be life changing. I guess i would say it is an option but not a good one by any means.

Ever thought that maybe you are the problem?

iMovie definitely isn't as bad as you make it out to be.

Yeah I agree. Look we all know iMovie sucks because it is incredibly simplistic and aimed at the everyday user that wants to be able to put videos they take. That being said, any professional editor could still use it to the best of its features and make a video. Its not like the software is so awful its unusable.
