this is a short I had to make for my film class. the assignment was match to sound, which we have been doing since the begining of the program almost. I decided to just screw around with a few effects and transitions I wanted to do. tell me what you think and some particular things that work/ dont work.

It was hard to make out what the guy was saying because of the echoing and the music was so annoying. But the editing was sick.
 
three of those have worked for me so far but.. who knows

I like the editing though theres some really small detailed work i cant tell you spent some time on like the streetlight changing at different rates. good work!

Something i would have done differently is instead of having who i assume was you, actually IN it, i would have had the voice without the person. Maybe with following text.

 
That's cool, and it was well done, it just seemed a little cheesy to me.

again, the rest of it impressed me. well shot and edited.
 
Ya, I agree with the general sentiment here. Your urban shots were pretty well composed and color corrected, but everything that looked 'directed' looked really cheezy to me, including the monologue at the beginning, and the guy smoking the cigarette. Also, the audio was really hard to understand, and what you could understand was fairly poorly delivered. Were you using the onboard mic? One thing that always bothers me about student films is poor audio quality. Bad sound is much more distracting than bad picture quality. If you did use an external mic (it's hard to tell sometimes), I suggest laying some foam padding or blankets or something down around the actor next time to dampen the echo a bit. You should do this basically any time you use a shotgun mic indoors. Anyways, i'm going to stop before i go on forever, but nice cinematography. keep on shootin.
 
thanks pete! Im shooting with a panasonic dvc 30 and I made a sweet ass dolly for my smooth manouves.
 
not bad, not bad at all, i know i am just an amateur, but i would call it close to pro-work, really good.
sometimes i felt like there shouldve been a cut and there was none but before there has been one, idk its hard to describe, but i guess an uninitiated viewer wouldnt care, there are a lot of beats in this one, the beginning with the traffic lights is great
what cam did you use? and how much was it more importantly. i wanna make a real good movie next year and its just not going to happen with those bad cams we got right now. honestly, i was jealous when i watched your clip, i felt like i want to do something like that, but i cant because the cam quality fucks you up no matter what you do.

well for the camera I used a panasonic DVC30. its a fairly old model but it still does a decent job. Im not sure about the price since it was lent to me long term. I would go search on ebay for a used one to see the price.

The image quality however is not as good as it seems. honestly the colors you see depend more on my color correcting than the actual camera quality. If you want to go for a good camera, I would say a good pointer is to get a camera with a 3ccd processer. ( it will be written in a very obvious way on it) its about as good as you can get for a prosumer camera that is not hd.

*for the girl above me, I used final cut express. Its a good program for simple stuff and its fairly easy to use. I want to start using after effects though because with that you can use super usefull tools like 3d, motion tracking and 3d motion tracking
