tips for editing?

Hey Im just starting to get inot editng movies and I was just wondering if you guys had any sort of advice or tips.

watch alot of edits and try and think about them from an editing point of view so what sort of effects/transitions etc are being used..this helps you a lot when you're putting your own edit together so you can take ideas and whatnot
 
if you can make it look good with straight cuts then do it. If you cant transitions and fades are key. it can really make things flow. and not all transitions have to be done in post. get creative and watch a lot of videos. just anything. after a while you will end up developing your own style of editing
