It would be nice if there was a feature where you could edit your own post. That way there wouldn't be all these 3, 4, 5 etc. post in a row by the same person!

 
This is something that has been suggested a lot, but I'm still not sure if I want to put it up. We'll make this the official 'Edit Post' discussion. So give your thoughts on either side.

Its the moderators' job to remove multiple posts. Once you hit 'reply', you shouldn't be able to change what you wrote... we cant have everyone going back and re-writing their posts. Not only would the code be hard, but it would make the threads really confusing... what if everyone was replying to a certain post made by X, but then X went back and changed what his post said... then the entire thread below his post would become irrelevant and meaningless. I don't think there should be an edit feature.

 
Well, Im just talking about spelling mistakes where people and people who post again, to correct thier mistakes. Anyway, I understand what you are saying Kami, but if something like the Transworld forum was set up wher you can only edit your post within 5 minutes or so of the original post, we could avaoid a lot of the problems you are worried about. I don't know the script could be quite tricky. But what does everyone else think?

 
im against it. even if it is only 5 mins or so it will still mess up a lot of threads. i say just leave it how it is. if it works, don't try to fix it. besides we all know what everybody else means, even if there are spelling mistakes.

Its kinda like pissin on the guy in the stall next to you, just to see if he notices, or pissin on a proper female at a party, or even pissin in some dudes butt in the shower. We've all done it for fun. -lokash

What about a preview option? That way if you're someone who always makes spelling mistakes, you can click 'preview' instead of 'post' which will give you an opportunity to fix up what you said before it's posted..

The preview option would impliment the best of both sides of the issue. I change my vote for that. Good thinking Harvey!

I agree. Why the hell do you have to preview something that's already right infront of you! If people are too lazy to quickly re-read their posts now, they're going to be to lazy to preview them too. I vote to keep it the way it is.

you should make it so that you can edit posts, but the edit apears under the original..and sebsequent edits are displayed underneath that etc..

Jay- Previewing is very helpful for previewing posts with photos and links and stuff. Making sure you have your HTML correct, becaue it is very difficult to ensure that you get every single character right.

Mauii's suggestion I think is very good.

Also, you should make it so that you can preview your reviews and articles. That would help with keeping quality high.

The whole point of the preview/edit is to boost the quality of post. Like skodeo said, its very helpful to view HTML and other codes before posting.

 
I see your point Duncan. I think it would be annoying if you were forced to preview every time you posted, but you have shown me the light, and I do see the value in a preview OPTION.

would it be possible to have a real time preview?

so when your writing html tags or something there is a box that shows EXACTLY what will appear in the post.

the preview sounds like a good idea if you are putting up links and pics etc. but most of us just write what we have to say. I am against the preview. I like it the way it is.

Well harvey could put a preview button next to the reply button. That way you would only take the extra step if you wish. I just hate seeing 5 of these in a row

I'm not saying that you have to preview it everytime, but instead of just a 'reply' or 'post' button there should be a button next to it that says 'preview'

Pretty much every major forum has an edit function, Ive never seen it fuck anything up.

I think that a preview next to a reply button would be best.

On another note i have seen 'reply with quote' just wondering what that would do/not do

maybe make the edit post option on a timer or something? Im gettin a little to creative here i think but if you made it like 4 minute timer to edit your post...

but otherwise is ay no to edit, cus you could change your entire post a couple days later and no one would know what the fuck people are replying too...

preview is probably the best thing to do.. i dnno..

The preview thing is only good for pictures and links...but i do like the idea because I have screwed up links and pictures before.

Also, the edit thing is just dumb. Take the time to say what you want to say, the way you want to say it so that you don't have to go back and edit it. It takes 5 seconds to reread something to be sure everything is right in it.
