EDIAS and Contrast Reviews

Just got back from both of em, and wow.

Contrast

Really really good skiing. Pep killed it, Andys part was real good, Pollards part was fun to watch as usual. Blake was great, and Benchetler DESTROYED, loved his part. Also loved the soundtrack, all good classic tunes. My only complaint is WAY TOO MANY VOICEOVERS. we all know you love skiing, but jesus, stop talking about it so much. i think they would have been a lot more tolerable if it had been voice overs WITH the skiing at the same time, but way to many shots of them on the couch talking. still a sick movie, id recommend the download i think, def worth the 15 for that, not sure if id pay full dvd price for it. great skiing, but the voiceovers detracted from the overall effect.

EDIAS

HOLY GOD GOOD.

Not sure if it was quite as mindblowing as refresh, but really really really fucking good.

Dane Tudor obviously killed it, park shots, bc shots, urban, everything.

Tanner proved how incredibly versatile he is. He had a banger urban part, a sick ass pipe destruction part, and 2 parts of bc slayage. Which led into also Spriggles and CR killing it in the BC as well. Cali P track made that segment BANGER

Andreas Hatveit. Good segment. Some real cool urban shit, and a couple dope jump shots. Liked the seggy, and have always loved Andreas, but was bummed to see the re-used JOSS footage, and it was a lil short i thought. still fun to watch though

Charlie Ager. Its about time he got a real part in a major movie. Dude got some ridiculous bc tricks and some gnarly slams to go with them. all in all super sick part, dude definitely loves skiing.

Urban slayage. Of course, Walker killed it, he always does. Gagnier had some sick shots, as did several other randoms in the part. This would i think be the thing that puts refresh slightly ahead though. It was really good, but its hard to compete with wallisch, b-dog, harlaut and the like.

Nike 6.0 seggy. Fun lil pow segment. Im really psyched to see simon in the BC and even a few urban shots again. Id love to see him get back to where he was back in the Forward and High 5 days when he was super well rounded. TJ had some sick shots as well, as did Jossi. Nothing stood out as super mindblowing, but its dope to see some dudes that normally just slay park doing some sick shit in the BC

Park slayage. So fucking good. Some absurd features with some real sick shit thrown down on em. Lotsa dub flips and dub corks, along with some creative jibs and things. Martini slayed, as well as everyone else possible. so many people its impossible to mention them all

And finally Tim Motherfucking Durtschi. This dude is without a doubt the most underrated guy in skiing today. he did tricks that would win contests repeatedly in the BC. every double flip you could possibly imagine, thrown off bc features. house went off, esp since durtchi was there tonight as well. and of course, dub rodeo over pyramid as the ender. one of the sickest shots ever.

Overall a super sick movie and i would DEFINITELY buy it, almost as good as Refresh, which i would say hands down is the best ski movie ever.

i dont think durtschi is underrated at all. people said his segment in edias and reasons would be the both be the best segments of the year. and though super good niether was the best of the year. and he had my favorite part in yeah dude three years ago

I still think Tim is "underrated" but I think that's much more a function of his choice not to compete and his choice of terrain. But, as far as video skiers go, I can't think of anyone I'd rather watch.
And yea, his part in Yeah Dude was ridiculously dope.
Charley Ager and Dane Tudor are the deal. Anyone who hasn't seen Journal needs to stat.

That's a good summary. I would like to say that I've kind of been leaning away from nimbus independent nowadays. IDEA was one of my favorite/most influential/most rewatchable ski movies I have ever seen. With the bar set so high, hunting yeti and contrast just haven't delivered to my expectations based on IDEA. In Contrast there is good skiing, but soooo much talking. Also, they hit a bunch of spots that they have already slayed in years past, and they don't really shed new light on these old spots. It's still a must see this year, but not a must buy.

Am I the only one who didn't like EDIAS? Same old Poorboyz stuff they have been rolling out over the last few years, Jonny D really needs to take full charge and take them back to how they were. Way too much T-Hall being T-Hall, bad music, poor editing, nothing new in the filming. And Dane Tudor? Yeah he's good all round but didn't blow me away in any respect.

Discuss.

^really? i haven't seen it yet so i can't comment but i love theory 3 so iw ould have thought jeff's involvement would have been sick..no?

I did like EDIAS, but at the same time, Tanner's voiceovers were soooooo annoying. Honestly, I'd much rather listen to Pollard and Mahre and Nyman speak from the heart about what they love than listen to Tanner reading lines...or at least that's how it seems.

It was also edited wierdly so that parts of the movie had tons of Tanner input, and others didn't.

Honestly, I liked both. I LOVED the vibe of Contrast - it reallyyyyy made me want to go ski. EDIAS stoked me up, but I didn't get the same feeling that I got out of Contrast. Yes, Tane Duder kills it, but yes, I also agree that PBP is kinda falling back on their name and track record and not coming up with much "new" stuff; I agree with BamBam. Don't get me wrong, the movie was sick, but when you really think about it...

i semi agree i miss the old ones like x=10,happy dayz, propaganda..........Edias was defiantly better than reasons and yeah dude

This is all funny to me because I had this same sorta thread and it got deleted since Poor Boyz requested that it be deleted. Apparently they can't take some constructive criticism.

Durtschi is well on his way to becoming the Travis Rice of skiing if he keeps progressing at this rate.

EDIAS made me shit my pants at IF3 last month. ive got to buy that movie, even if it was just for the Durtschi seg.

First off, the soundtrack to Contrast achieved top Five Best Ever ski soundtracks. I have no idea how Pollard got the music rights for that, but it's so friggin' awesome.

IDEA and Hunting Yeti were much better than Contrast. Quit talking in circles about skiing and how you started and why you do it and how much you love it. I'm absolutely shocked that those four--Pollard, Pep, Mahre, and Benchetler--thought that was a good idea. I mean, that's one of the reasons why they broke away from MSP, TGR, etc. Let the skiing, travel, and regular people and skiers tell the story, much like Hunting Yeti.

Dane Tudor might be one of the best skiers in the world.

I want to see Durtschi ski more lines, instead of just backcountry booters. Although his bc booter coverage was, indeed, amazing.

Charley Ager is the most overrated skier in PBP. I love his dirtbag steeze, but his spins and attempted landings have no business in a major ski movie. I like Charley, but his style, or lack thereof, disgusts me. Ugh.

i wouldnt have minded the voiceovers as much if they were the background to skiing either, it was the fact that they were just couch shots. and i dont mind the shots of their random shenanigans either, but the voiceovers were so cliche in that movie it was ridiculous.

I disagree. He stomped some of the most insane shit, it didn't even make sense. I personally like his style. It's just so, raw, i guess.

contrast wasn't my favorite ever. some really good shots, but the fucking voice overs (they weren't all bad) got so old. the only part of the ramble i really like is about growing up on the mountain and their childhood. the rest. so boring. good soundtrack tho
EDIAS blew my fucking mind. honestly dane tudors segment, tim durtchi and superpark made me wish i brought extra panties. the urban wasnt fantastic (except garnier) but all and all i love this movie. and having beer spilled down my leg just added to it. i was so stoked on skiing and i felt like it really summed up the vibe of our sport.

forgot to add, best soundtrack by a PBP movie in ages. they tend to have some good songs, but some questionable ones as well (see foo fighters, good song, dont wanna hear it in a ski movie). this year was banger, the only questionable song was the ozzie one, but i guess it still worked.

The skiing was good for the most part, but I totally agree--the cinematography was poor (Level 1 is in another league here), music wasn't very good, too long, and a lot of mediocre shots that never should have made the cut.

Not worth the $35 it cost me!
