Edge Removal

My 2007 Armada T-Hall pro models are trashed. But amazing skiis! Im gettin new skiis this year. The edges are popping out of them so i cant slide rails without catching an edge. If i completely remove the edges how would they be as a back up ski? And I never ski powder cuz i live in Ohio. Would they be good urban skiis?
 
If your on shit hills in Ohio you should be fine

but

If there's a lot of ice, as is typical in the Midwest, you have a problem
 
I had a pair of moships that I ripped the edges out on rails, so I pulled all of the edges out, it was smmmmmmoth as butter on rails! If you hit ice though, hold on for a ride. They will make great urban/beater sticks!
 
define "edges popping out". if its within reason they can still be salvaged. what you do is heat up the cracked area of the edge, bend it back into shape and support with superglue. then when it dries you can file off the rough glue rounds sticking out. obviously this wont work if the edges are rediculously messed, but if you do this right theyll stay strong for a surprising amount of time
 
Thank you and this is good advice but i already have tried it. They were temporarily fixed for acouple months but then busted again and now there beyond repair. Its right under my boat and im deciding on removing them completely or just taking out that section. If i could leave the tips i think they'de be alright on groomers? IDK? Just a though
 
You could possibly take them to a good shop and have them. I know what Id do. Id cut away the broken edge section, cut away the base in the shitty area, insert new edge section, join it and screw it down, baseweld it, and give the sticks a nice grind. It'll look good. And if done right, the fix can last. Can be expensive, bring the shop guys a case of beer, and they will hook you up. Otherwise if you take the edges out, but leave the tip edge in, it wont make a difference, the majority of your grip is underfoot.
 
I took a electric grinder to mine, and then filled it with ptex. I don't have edge going down the side of the ski...

surprisingly it wasnt that bad to ski on.
 
I would do that^. Be sure to fill the gap with ptex so water doesn't get in there. Once that happens, the ski is royally eff'd. If you like the skis though, it might be worth paying someone to weld in another section of edge. it will drastically lengthen the life of the skis, even though you are using them for urban stuff.
