Ebay Problem

I was thinking about putting this in the Equipment forum, but since it isn't directly gear related i figured here would be better to get a good response.

But here's my problem. A few weeks ago I bid on a pair of Liberty Larose Pros. And in the shipping portion of the auction description, I entered my zip code and everything. And the shipping came out to be $11.56. I mean hey this seemed to be pretty cheap to ship a pair of skis. But hell, I thought that maybe he's a big shop that can do a lot of shipping deals. And reduce costs to help sell things.

Well anyways. I won the auction for $211. So the total cost would come out to $222.56. Well then I go to check my paypal invoice. And the shipping is listed there as $35. I was like wtf. There has to be some mistake. So I went back to the auction page and double checked, and everywhere on the page it said SHIPPING: $11.56. Nothing about other costs or $35. So I message him, asking him to correct it. And I get a bullshit response back. That is something to the extent of "I'm sorry ebay doesn't allow me to list shipping for oversized objects. Shipping is $35."

So I've been messaging him back and forth. Explaining to him, that people sell skis and other oversized shit on ebay all the time. In the shipping portion you specify that it is a fixed rate. You don't list so crazy calulator and then after the auction is over charge someone something completely different.

Well he's just been playing dumb. Sending me responses back like "Shipping is $35." Is there anything I can do? Ebay is a contract right? Technically he has to sell me the skis for that price correct? If the buyer breaks the contract, then theres hell to pay. What about the seller. I really want these skis. But I'm not paying almost $250 for them.

Dude, it's 25$ more. I'll agree that you're right but you should just pay and not worry about it.

That's still cheap for shipping skis. But, if you care about the money it's really easy to settle disputes through Ebay.

Hands down in this situation, you would be refunded. The shipping listed is the shipping you pay. Email Ebay.

yeah but... if i pay him, what is that saying about me? I can't live my life letting people jack me $25 here and there. Over the course of my life I could be getting jacked $10,000. I'm just tired of people pulling this shit. Because there are a lot of people, like a lot of you, telling me to just pay him. Thats exactly what this dude would want. Some guy that just wants to avoid the hassel, and pay him. And he just made $25 more than he would've. Simply by cheating the system. I think i'm going to report his ass to ebay.

Then why'd you make the thread? Simply to share your story, because I see you aren't taking advice from people in the thread?

I was basically looking for some insight in what action i could take against him. Or if anyone has encountered a similar problem like this. I mean you hear about buyers not paying and trying to rip off sellers but you never hear about sellings doing it to buyers, other than maybe selling shitty products. Maybe I should've made it clear that I wasn't going to pay this idiot.
