wondering what happens if you duck the ropes at any of the resorts on the east coast like okemo, stratton, kilington or snow? can they take away your season pass for skiing out of bounds? anybody know?
Depends on the patroller that catches you too. I'd reccomend getting the hell outta there and change jackets if one sees you. Doesnt mean you shouldnt do it though.
Just be careful about it. I was ducking ropes all weekend at Smuggs. Just make sure you don't see any patrollers before you duck the rope, and just ski like hell.
Like other people said, it really depends on the patroller. If he is a dick and is having a bad day, expect your pass to be taken. The best idea is to just cut in from the side and use that as an excuse
^ knows whats up, but i usually just say i have a day ticket (my seasons pass is in my pocket) and reach for a rnadom zipper. "oh shit, im sorry it must have gotten ripped off while i was in the woods. should i go down and get a refund?" theres really nothign they can do about that except see you to the bottom, at which point you wait till they leave & put your pass back on
Thats what I do. I remember being chased by snowmobiles under Gore's old gondola trail.
Other thing is, let them catch you on the trail. This what a friend and I did, waited for him to take his poles off and unzipper his jacket to get to his radio, and we took off.
yes...at jay they allow u to go out of bounds, just do not, i repeat, do not fall or get lost and need ski patrol assistance because then they will be ripshit and u have to pay for your own rescue, best to go out of bounds with some buddies also
haha they cant force u to stay on there property! if u want to ski out of bounds then go for it. its if u ski on closed trails, then they will get bitchy
Is it worth it on the east coast? I wouldnt know because im from colorado, but from what ive herd, its mostly ice so ducking a rope might not be worth a season pass
you can actualy find some real good snow ducking on the east, i got caught once and the patroller put a "strike" on my pass, i guess you get like 2 chances at sunday river or something, all the other times we've just booted ass if they see us, chances are ull get away, especialy if u just ski of into some thick woods and hide
Whenever you go out of bounds tuck your pass away and say that it must have fallen off. Don't show them any ID or anything because they can't touch you. If they try giving you shit just ski away.
Yeah well just remember, those patrolers that are dicks, will be the same ones that will be towing your ass down the hill if you get fucked up. Not to say that I haven't skied out of bounds once or twice, but those ropes are there for a reason. The trial or slope is unsafe, and for a thing called insurance they have it closed.
Just make sure you know what the fuck you are doing. Cause a lot of those places make it pretty hard for them to get help to.
at killington your prity much allowed to ski in the woods no pattrolers will ever say anything to you and as far as out of bounds there is a rope and a sign that ses something along the lines of "you are responsible for the cost of your own resque and be preparared to spend a night in the woods." I do not recomend skiing out of bounds at killington to any one who dose not know the area, woods inbounds are fine but dont go out of bounds if you dont know what your doing. just cause its the east coast dosnt mean your not going to get lost which is probly worse then geting lost out west because once it gets dark your fucked cause it will be below zero most nights.
that is a good question cause if you dont know the mtn then you would say it is a stupid idea. but if the only way to get pow is to snake the closed trails, go off the back side, or in woods that are off limits... trust me, you;ll do it.
toilet bowl gets tracked prity quick but decent none the less killington is just fucking gay about making all the good woods that were known by locals into trails. and now all the fuckers from new york and boston go in there and side slip there way through the tress geting rid of all the pow.
At okemo the patrollers will get pissed but they dont usually expect a chase so just ski away as fast as possible. You can go down to the base and take off you jacket or whatever.
i dont think i would try to ski out of bounds on the east coast...with all the freezing and warming...and just seems like you get less snow or doesnt hold as well...but im probably very off
ive heard the best out of bounds in the east is at burke, the backside, while the mountain isnt that good the out of bounds is sick and worth going for, also they have almost no patrollers there
