Ear buds to ski with.

Skullcandy's aren't a total POS but they are overpriced for the quality. They really are overrated. I don't like the buds cause I didn't realize but you have to pay an extra $30 to get the ones with volume buttoms, and it only has a pause/play button which accidentally gets pushed hanging from my ear, absolutely excruciatingly annoying. I've had friends go through a few pairs of them too (why'd I even buy them?)

Sony sells some silver/black buds for like $14.99 and they are stellar and more quality material and even sound than the Skulls, although without any buttons. Least they won't break.

Beats suck because the sound quality is terrible (for the price)

Basically kids like them because most of them (the larger ones) come with a built in eq/bass amplifier. It gets you really nice and powerful lows but actually distorts the sound quite a bit. Also for your money you're getting terrible range (20Hz-20kHz) when compared to other alternatives.

eg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106328&Tpk=sennhauser%20280

specs on those: 15-25kHz, 64 ohm nominal impedence with 102 dB sensitivity. 85$ (without the current coupon of 12$ off)

Also beyond the tech-specs the quality of materials is notoriously bad, I know two seperate people who bought Beats products that were dead on arrival in one earbud, one of which returned and recieved another DOA product. Garbage.

Pretty much this.

And to the other guy, thanks for assuming that I can't afford beats.. I just choose not to buy shitty headphones that are WAAAAY over priced.

people pay for skullcandies? Go to one ski movie premiere and you can come out with near a years worth of headphones for free.

and rail jams. good way to get 3 or 4 new shirts too if you are too lazy to do laundry. that is if you are taller than everyone else in the crowd.

While I agree that Skullcandies are shit in terms of build and sound quality, they are cheap as shit. I would much rather break a $10 pair of SCs than say, $100+ on a pair of actually decent headphones. Plus, at least the bass, however muddy, is present. And really, when I'm skiing, I'm not exactly paying that much attention to the sound quality of my headphones...

I bought some sennheiser cx 680 (adidas) earplugs which I am quite pleased with, both sound and function wise. They are made for sports and pretty much stick in your ear like glue. My previous earplugs were skullcandy ink'd, which were fine for the price, but often fell out and the sound quality wasn't great. You definitely get what you pay for with these sennheiser earplugs.

Yeah pretty much this.

I'm constantly amazed at the selection at my local Marshall's for headphones. I literally threw out my set of smokin buds because they sucked horse dicks and fit like shit and bought a pair of wood-backed earbuds called I believe Timbres for like $7... And they were rediculously close to the FMJs in terms of performance, looked even better with the wood and the finish even matched my iPhone perfectly. I love them, best headphones since my old FMJs with the memory foam surround at about 1/10th the price.

Unless you're a huge audiophile, there's really no reason to spend tons and tons of dough on headphones that are just ok and try not to confuse boomin bass with sound quality. If you keep your eyes open you can probably find something good for cheap and spend the extra dough on hookers and blow.

got a pair of SC smokin buds that i enjoy. however i didnt pay the 30$, had a friend hook me up with a discount. sometimes they pop out, but most of the time they stick in and sound fine enough to ski with
