Dynafit Radical Pro - The end all be all for touring boots

Alright...how many of us are switching to the Radical Pro's this year. Currently know of 5 people switching to them (me included). We are switching from a fischer ranger free, dynafit hoji free, hoji pro, hawx ultra xtd, and dalbello lupo.

Is the radical pro the new go to boot...you sold on it? What else is there even to be stoked on as far as touring boots? I am waiting for those new rear entry, 2 piece, 75 degree motion range, grilamid tongue, and boa powerstrap atomics that seem to never get developed.

This might be the dumbest take ever? Do you work for Dynafit? Why the fuck would people swap to an unbelievably uninspiring product that fits most people like shit?

yeah dude dynafit marketing intern here (budgets are cut so we resort to shit posts on NS now) but how is it an uninspired product? It was developed to offer a more comfortable and wide range fit after its earlier iteration failed to offer any bit of that.

what boot development should I be stoked on? The one designed by hoji himself or another shitty hawx xtd with a walk mode and construction and liner that falls apart after 40 days. Or how about those lupos that tour like they dont even have a walk mode? Nah my bad…I should be a purist that is keen on maestrales and zero Gs that make my feet feel like a bondage superstar.

Bought Atomic backlands carbons this past summer when they were on sale.

Major upgrade from the Dynafit Titans I was using last year. Pretty stoked on any boot with over a 40 degree flex.

I have had such a fucking difficult time fitting dynafit boots. They fit like such dogshit most of the time and theyre priced so uncompetitively in my country. I consistently have to put people into these dumb things only to waste a bunch of time trying to make them work for their feet. Then I put them in a Ranger Free or a Lupo AX or a Mindbender or XTD or whatever and they leave totally happy with a boot that works for their needs and cost them tens of thousands of yen less (like 200-300$ less)

Ever since like, maybe the TLT6 era, when I didnt have as many boot options to work with anyway, its been increasingly difficult to get people excited to wear dynafits once they slap them on their feet and realize how wrong they are for them.

Yeah, outside of recreationally skinning up a groomer for fitness Dynafit isn’t really relevant in the touring market. They don’t even make a top 3 rando race ski/boot/binding. How fucking embarrassing. 10 years ago they had the clear best in class with both the TLT6, Vulcan/Mercury as well as the Radical binding. Had some good skis too. Now, the Hoji Pro is competitive but leave it to those fart sniffers to forget the toe lug on year one.

They should just make the inserts and sell the standard to boot and binding companies.

pomocca skins are still the best however, and it’s not super close.

I will say, if they just brought back the old vulcan/mercury I think they would have a lot more of a market share, but yeah the speed toe and terrible fit of the OG hoji boot and hoji pro are shit for sure.

i thought my hawx xtds were gunna fill the nice void of boot woes, but after having ripped through the liner in a season, breaking the walk mode twice, and losing my cuff bolt twice, im not sold. Didnt think I would have to use a multi tool and check my boots every day before a tour.

Im just hoping a radical pro with a intuition tour wrap is an upgrade, cant convince me to hop into a F1 or backland (boa doesnt have me sold).

Lol. if you broke your hawx walk modes twice, youd have broken any of the other ones... I have seen every single walk mode from just about every boot break in some way shape or fashion. Its the penalty you pay for having such a lightweight boot design (though admittedly, the old Dynafit design and the salomon MTN Lab design that borrowed the idea seem to hold up better than most)

as for your bolts... they invented loctite a long time ago. I loctite all my bolts in my boots and never lose shit anymore.

And your liners... sorry man but if theyre a touring boot, youre bound to rip through a liner in a season if not less - Im on my 2nd liner in my F1s, and 3rd liner in my Cochises and its just sorta what happens... theyre thinner than usual liners, and they wear out a heck of a lot faster if youre walking in them than if youre riding chairlifts and skiing in them statically..

Ok hold the phone. Not relevant in the touring market? That's a bit much given that their original design concept is over 30 years old yet still the basis of anyone seriously touring across the entire industry. I wonder what Fritz Barthel makes of the Duke PT.

The Radical 2.0/now Rotation is an amazingly tourable/skiable binding, both at the weight and for how relatively powerful it is. Still skiing the pair I picked up five years ago, and though I haven't skied the Raider 12 or Voyager, I'd be curious if they are as planted.

Yes, the Hoji Pro Tour has a tricky fit, and the speed nose is annoying, but in terms of walkability and skiability, it was on the leading edge. The XTD and Zero G Pro didn't even exist in their modern iterations when the Hoji Pro came out. That the Hoji lock system does more than connect a lever between walk and ski modes is important, and going into year four, mine still don't have any slop in ski mode. Never seen that in another touring boot that I've owned.

People praised the Vulcan and Mercury, but it's not like those boots fit super well for a big slice of people, especially the latter.

Personally, I'm excited to try the Radical Pro, but it's year one. Who knows might work or not.

The Radical 2.0/rotation is actually one of the best bindings out there, and always one of my 2 or 3 recommendations for an all-pin binding along with the vipec and ions. Fuckin sick binding and a great design.

I agree with you about the Mercury and Vulcan fitting horrible... theres a reason why there are still shops out there that are sitting on some... Never liked those.

Dynafit has some awesome technology and design features, and yes they were the first to use the Tourlite system but it's just unfortunate how poorly their boots have fit peoples feet over the years - which is especially difficult due to the fact that thin touring liners and shells dont have as much to work with or adjust as their alpine counterparts.
