what is a good program that I can get for free that i can capture video from my minidv camera? I want to be able to batch capture just like in final cut pro. thanks

Imovie is an ok software, but I don't know if its free.

Maybe, windows movie maker, I have used that also and its easy to use.

Windows Movie Maker is being a bitch right now! How do you make it recognize that a device is hooked up so it can capture? It keeps saying Device not detected.

under "my computer" it should show up there as an external capture device or camera or something. if it doesnt show up there then theres a problem with your firewire/port

Yea, but how do you make movie maker recognize it?

make sure it is on the vcr mode on ur dv camera and then it should work.

when in WMM on the right it should say import video from device or something like that

Yea, but when i click on that, it says "Device not detected. Make sure you have your device turned on and connected properly."
