Dude Gabber forum request

Having a lady gabber forum without a dude gabber forum presents a subtext of gender discrimination.

How can we achieve equality when we keep highlighting our differences!

Guys we need to rally together now before the fairer, more beautiful, sweet smelling, superior emotionally intelligent sex is running the world. I love women dearly but man, they scary. Boobies though

But really, where does the buck stop with this?

People do realise that the gender debate right now is just another way to polarise society and make us hate each other, yes? It makes us easier to control

Love is all we need. I choose women over the system every day of my life.

Actually what even is lady gabber about? Equal ops? Or do girls just like to have a space to call their own.

I'm not here to take it away, I just want to know why NS has segregated the sexes. It's part of the problem. Sexual apartheid

i can't wrap my mind around this bothering you. they gave them a forum geared specifically to girls talking to girls, who gives a shit?

you'll persevere through this, i believe in you

Boys boys, it's satire

It was really a tongue-in-cheek observation that positive discrimination is still discrimination, and that a ladies only forum only exacerbates the gender 'problem' which is so trendy these days. If you couldn't get there on their own then boo to you, go back to sleep!

Though your post appears to be mostly satire/trolling, I'll wage a straight response.

I believe women requested their own forum, and got it. I assume they wanted a place where they could talk about issues that mattered to them, without being incessantly hated on by guys.

I don't know the exact number, but I believe NS's users are between 80-90% male.

For sure, positive discrimination is still discrimination. But discrimination is not in and of itself a negative thing; we all discriminate daily in making the choices that affect our lives. If discrimination is utilized to try to create a more fair and equitable society, then I'm all for it. Sports in general, skiing in general and Newschoolers in particular are all male-dominated fields; so why shouldn't women get a space for themselves?

This is why Title IX exists in the U.S. and why you have separate men's and women's competitions in most sports.

I was watching curling mixed doubles at the Olympics the other day with my girlfriend, and she said, "I don't get why they have to stipulate that the team is one man and one woman. Why don't they just call it "mixed" and let the teams choose who they want to bring? 2 guys, 2 girls, or one of each?" I told her that the answer was very simple. If the one-man, one-woman rule was taken away, the teams would be all men. If you don't create a space for women, there won't be a space for women.

As someone else mentioned above, every other forum on NS can be considered a "dude gabber" based on the demographics.

One sort of, but not necessarily related topic that's of interest today: when you take away privilege from someone, it FEELS like discrimination, even if it's just correcting an imbalance.

imbalance.

come on, give this guy his guys-only forum. he and two other brave mens' rights activists can talk about divorce court and shit without worrying about a female presence

I'm glad this has prompted some discussion. The provocative context of my OP aside, I personally do believe that this is something which deserves discussion. ESB is right of course, and thanks for your insightful comments, that discrimination is not necessarily negative.

The big bug-bear here for me at least, is that the media are using discrimination divisively. Yet; when presented satirically to a faceless forum on the internet people generally present themselves well and open mindedly. This restores my faith in humankind. But why is it such a bone of contention? We can happily coexist without being gender-opinion shamed....

Hard to explain because I'm borderline asbergers and have a skin full of beer, but I believe we are all on the same team and love each other so, and the media should be held accountable for social unrest as they have a uniquely responsible position to insight such things, which they do with aplomb and to great profit

And to play devils advocate, we live in a capitalist society (like it or no).... if women wanted a private space they could just create one without surrendering all of the marketing revenue to the 'man' of newschoolers
