Driving to mammoth

from seattle, this is what mapquest gave me:

Merge onto I-5 S toward PORTLAND. 523.7 miles

5. Merge onto CA-89 via EXIT 736 toward MC CLOUD/LASSEN PARK. 78.2 miles

6. Turn LEFT onto CA-44/FEATHER LAKE RD. Continue to follow CA-44. 45.9 miles

7. Turn LEFT onto CA-36. 10.2 miles

8. CA-36 becomes US-395 S. 89.7 miles

9. Merge onto US-395 S via EXIT 57B toward VIRGINIA CITY/CARSON CITY/SO LAKE TAHOE. 148.2 miles

10. Turn RIGHT onto MAMMOTH SCENIC LOOP. 5.8 miles

Now, does that sound like the best way? or is there another way that's gonna be faster?

 
would take the sanitam pass over to bend then go down 97 to la pine, get on 31 which will turn into 395.

message me if you want more exact directions, I live in tahoe and my parents live in portland so i do the drive from here to there all the time.

Does that route put me through tahoe?

Santiam pass is gae, I'd rather take 26 to 97 and go through govvy

 
yeah , it takes you through southlake i think.

26 to govy would work too...it takes you to reno, carson, then on to mammoth. south lake is just 25 miles up the hill from carson...thats where iam. where you going? i've been waiting to go down to mammoth, i'm in south lake also..

 
chris we should take the route map quest gave; from shasta to reno. its the best looking at maps, going to sacramento adds like 130 miles, going east further north adds miles too, plus slower little highways and stuff

 
yea I think staying on I-5 for long time is key cuz the speed limit will be 65-70 except when goin through the big cities

 
anybody got a place in south lake where we could crash on the 5th? we're nice kids

i wanna ride somewhere in tahoe on the 6th then drive the rest of the way down to mammoth

 
I-5 is slower, you can drive 90+ from bend to reno. I do the drive ALOT. I can make it to bend in 5.5 hours if i haul ass.

sierra is much better, thats where i ski.
