Driving a manual question

Been driving a stick for a few months now and I can shift pretty smoothly, but I shift with my left heal remaining on the ground instead of lifting my whole leg up. just wondering if this is a bad habit and if i should change it or just stick to what is comfortable

Weeelll do you let the clutch all the way out when your heel is on the ground, or do you have limited motion and only let it out most of the way? If the latter is the case then stop being lazy and don't ride the clutch!

You must have a really short clutch, I have to use my whole leg, but if youre pushing it in all the way and not grinding it shouldnt be a problem

as long as you're pushing the clutch in all the way and letting it out all the way then it's fine. riding the clutch is bad and so is shifting right on the edge of where the clutch engages. when you're not shifting your foot should not even be on the clutch

Haha Gator... if it makes you feel better your comment was much more straightforward than mine! =D

But holy shit dude 20000? I really must just lurk and not post because in 8 years I have only acquired just over 6000...

Idk, just figure it out. Every car drives a little different too. Just do it, can get good at it. If it's not shifting smooth no something different?

DOn't want to be hopping out from the traffic light every time.

No, I was seeing it more as failing my duty to NS!

The other dude who drives with his heel on the floor - that's fine if it's while you're shifting long as it doesn't get in the way - but if you're in gear and your foot is resting on the clutch while driving along it's probably a good idea to get out of that habit. The slight pressure can cause the disk the slip against the flywheel and cause damage/wear on both the disc and flywheel. Because it is partially disengaged it will also result in less power to the drivetrain. When I first learned I would sometimes forget my foot resting on the clutch and my bro would get mad, so I don't do it anymore.

My family loves cars, what can I say.

its fine if you have a super short clutch but you should start getting out of that habit in case you don't ruin your next car's tranny or your friends or something.
