Dream Team BS.

Greetings NS,

My name is Brooke Potter. I would like to announce a new project between my friend Savannah Pitts and I.

I have been skiing park since 2008, and have been told every year since then that unless I seriously competed, I would make it no where.

Here is my honest opinion (sorry if this offends you) I hate competing. Getting coached, paying big bucks to be on a team, paying even bigger bucks to travel and for insane entry fees.. I felt way to restricted and pressured into following the rules. Unfortunately, once I made the decision that I never wanted to compete in another slopestyle comp again, there really wasn't more hope for me in skiing. We are hoping to change that.

Savannah and I are starting a new project this year called Dream Team BS.

Our goal is to be the game changers in women's freeskiing and photography.

We hope to bring you the illest photos and edits that display our rad personalities

and our drive to do something that has never been done.

My personal goal is to put out a season edit that is shot 100% in the streets.

Thoughts? Opinions? Hate it? Love it? Joke? Stoked?

What would you like to see from us this season?

Let us know B&S

THIS is what I want to see happen with women's skiing. There are very few girls that hit urban, its unreal. I want to see women's skiing have groups of bad ass filming chicks like Too Hard or Outta Tha Kitchen. Unity of bad bitches!

So stoked to be filming in the streets with you this year Danylle!

freestyle and competition are really antonyms.

once upon a time, stratton accidentally setup a whaletail style rollercoaster rail backwards for a rail jam. it was impossible to slide through the second larger hump... people got broke off, and most stopped attempting... the event carried on and travis heed did 270 on - 270 off the side of the second hump into the tranny for the win. that kid was freestyle, and the industry shunned him... good luck and count on an upvote from me.

I'm way into this. I would pay just to see it happen kickstarter style if you guys put together a solid pitch and plan. And would you have guest peeps in the crew? Or do you think it should be all ladies?

FUCK yea!

That's what skiing is all about. Just having fun with all your closest homies and enjoying it all as much as possible.

Sounds like a great idea.

Maude and Katrina are two female skiers making waves without competing. Its not unheard of. However, if you put out a full street part then you'd be legendary. I'm looking forward to that. Good luck and don't give up!

For sure filming in the streets with Danylle and Katrina. Should be rad, those two ladies slayyy

Could be a game changer right here. Good luck to you, go in on the streets with our girl Katrina as well!

You remind me of the girl in high school who claims to be smart but just "doesn't test well". Contests exist because all skiers are not equally talented and there needs to be a way to figure out who is actually good. Besides, girls comp skiing is at such a laughably low level right now in freeskiing that you don't yet need coaches and airbags and shit like the men who need to practice unnatural dubs in the pipe and triples on jumps. You just need to be mildly coordinated and dedicated. There are only like 50 girls on the competitive side of the sport anyway so if you can't shine in a talent pool that tiny, then maybe you just aren't good.

I fully support your plan op

Killer idea, stoked to see what happens!

Haha I hope you are kidding. Not every girl wants to compete and be judged by usually bias judges. We aren't trying to be on the "competitive side of the sport" encase you missed that part.

Maybe its because the best girl skiers don't want to deal with the BS of Comps. Either way that was a dick bag response. Keep your thoughts to yourself next time.

Go B! Go S! Proud to have both of you as my employees!

Not kidding. Judges are actually pretty good these days (generally). That's great that you don't want to be on the competitive side of the sport. That's where almost all skiers are. They pay to have fun and ski every day and are called recreational skiers.

Almost all the top pros competed at some point to distinguish themselves from the rest. There are a few exceptions, but they are outliers and most of them do really gnarly shit to get noticed and even then make barely enough money to eat. Look at the danger a guy like Cam Riley has put himself in for years and you can bet he has paid a lot more to ski than he has been paid. My problem is not with your wish to not compete, it's with your vague wish to have a "place in the sport". I'm not 100% sure what that means, but I'm guessing that it includes not paying a shitload of money every winter to enjoy your pastime like everyone else. Don't quit you day job.

It's a bummer you don't want to see any women skiers getting into more then just competitions. There is definitely a place in this sport for it as far as me and everyone else supporting this is concerned. Considering there hasn't ever been a lady who has put out just a street part I would say possibility's are endless and this is only the beginning. Haters need not apply!

Actually, you are mistaking my annoyance with a sense of entitlement that too many girls in freeskiing have for a mysoginistic view of women's sport in general. I want way more females in freeskiing, be that in comps or riding for fun. I think that would benefit the level of skiing greatly and maybe push the girls to work half as hard as the guys do. But, as things stand, women's freesking is already subsidized almost entirely by the men's side of the sport be that backcountry or park. Look at the x games and how guys and girls get the same prize money despite the fact that there are 10 times as many guys working their asses off to get to that level for every girl. You seriously complain about entry fees? The prizes in girls comps are almost always paid by the guy's entry fees and there would be no girls comp at all if it wasn't for them men's. They are there so that the comp organizers don't look sexist by only fielding a mens competition. So be grateful that there is a route at all for you to be recognized when there are so few girls and the skiing is so mediocre.

The fact is that I don't even hate on all women's skiing. I think the top female competitors in the alpine and freestyle disciplines are fairly impressive athletes (Vonn, Reisch, Kearney and countless others rip) and girls in other physically similar sports like gymnastics can be very impressive, so I don't believe the limiting factor for girls right now is physical or psychological ability. The fact is that the number of girls in freeskiing is very low so I get upset when I see girls complaining about things like recognition when your sport isn't popular or impressive enough to generate what you currently receive. If women's free skiing is to be successful, at some point it will need to stand on its own without help from the men's side of the sport and that is not yet close to happening.

I'd be hyped to see some shakeup in women's skiing! Fuck competitions, let's see what you girls got this season!

Thats funny because I was just thinking of this guy who wasn't a dick but was just "a person who thinks people actually give a fuck about his thoughts on things" kind of guy.

If you don't want to support it then don't. It definitely wouldn't be a loss to us. So do me a favor and keep your Negative Nancy attitude elsewhere or pull your panties out of your ass and stop being an ass where its not needed.

COskier does make some compelling points...

Also, it's awesome you want to do this project but I'd really just rather see a finished product with no preluding thread. Actions speak much louder than words, especially in this sport. Go out and kill it in the streets, then make a thread stoking up your film. Doesn't really make sense to be doing it the other way around...

Whoa,

This escalated so quick.

Emile and COskier….

I agree to an extent.

Women have NOTHING on men when it comes to skiing.

But this thread isn't about Men vs. Women… its about my idea to change the game.

There are SO many guys making it without competing. And they get SO MUCH DAMN RESPECT.

In fact, the ONLY guy skiers I look up to are the one's who KILL IT without a single comp on their resume.

So I am going for it. If you see me posting content, ignore it. All I want is to be a respected lady skier without competing. At the end of the day (if you absolutely HAD to choose…), would you boys rather watch a girl slopestyle run or a girl street edit…? Yeah, thought so.

It is about damn time a lady changed the game.

Much love boys,

Brooke

I hope you do go out and make a good edit. If it is really fucking good you will get the recognition you were hoping for. I just resent your suggestion that the status quo is, in any way, unfair to girls. Good luck this season and make an edit that is great, not great for a girl.

Hmm never said it was 'unfair' just that not many girls have pushed for any change.

Couldn't agree more. Not trying to be good for a girl, but just good.

There aint no ladies division when it comes to hitting the streets, thats for damn sure.

Just go out and make a great edit. I don't think the expectation from anybody is something like Clayton Vila would put out, but really just a well-shot, well-skied story that got into some of the grit of taking it to the next level.

Do that and I'm sure everybody here will love it sans -emile-.

Forget the haters brooke! You absolutely slay and I wish you the best of luck on this project! Really excited to see what happens with this!

Right on!

Okay. So a good amount of people on newschoolers think "women's freesking is a joke".

Well, maybe it's a "joke" because it hasn't had as well of a start as men's and it's not as well established. Stuff like this is what is going to get things rolling for girls. I'm not saying Brooke's project is going to do all the change, but it's a start. And who knows maybe it fucking does! Girls need to get stoked. They need to want to learn how to ski and progress. If all they see are guys in the park and posting edits online then they aren't really gonna be as into park skiing. If they see a girl killing it, then maybe they would actually want to learn. The more girls in the sport the more room to grow essentially.

Gonna be honest, I never even imagined a girl in park until I started. I never saw a girl, it was always guys riding park. I rode with my brother but that's about it. Once he stopped then I stopped because I didn't think girls usually went to park like that. When I met my best friend and found out she rode park, that made me want to learn more. I probably wouldn't have started back up if it weren't for her.

A project like this will reach soo many girls. It might even introduce them to skiing in general. That's what the sport needs. We need more girls to push the sport. And hell, I'm 100% supporting Brooke in this because she's one of the raddest girl skiers out there right now and if she's gonna try to progress the sport, then fuck yeah. Im all for it.

Stay stoked Brooke and make it happen.

You never used the word unfair but you complained about not getting recognition for your skiing saying:

"Here is my honest opinion (sorry if this offends you) I hate competing. Getting coached, paying big bucks to be on a team, paying even bigger bucks to travel and for insane entry fees.. I felt way to restricted and pressured into following the rules. After that you mentioned that you hoped photos and edits of your "rad personalities" would get people interested. Skiing is a sport not a reality tv show. Good skiing gets respect, not lifestyle shots and any suggestion otherwise seems degrading to the handful of girls that do strive to be the best. I hope you can understand my skepticism of your projects lofty goals when you haven't yet started or previously demonstrated the capability to pull it off successfully. I continue to find it unlikely that an edit from women incapable of posting results from the underwhelming women's competitive skiing scene is likely to have the talent and drive to make an edit with good skiing.

With that being said, I've been wrong before. I'm going to shut up now and go back to what I said in my last post, good luck.

This. For sure. It really comes down to just putting out something that is super high-quality and people want to watch. From the comp side Sildaru right now is probably the gold-standard for girls, but she also had some really good non-comp season edits before she got into the comp scene. Her stock rose with that before she even won her first comp. She was recognized as a solid park skier with great style and well ahead of her age. Lot driving that, but if you put together a solid urban edit I can't see people hating on it, but rather more loving it.

Best of luck!
