SO my boyfriend drag races and i have no idea about drag racing... Hes got a really really suped up '01 ford ranger. its mint. and last weekend threw the 1/4 at 15.4 anyways... anyone have a drag car or one they're working on? suped up civics?or something and any tips on this shit. because im so lost about cars.. im trying to figure this stuff out.

Civics are pretty gay, all the horses that they claim they have are at almost redline... Look at some dyno graphs against other cars if you don't believe me. Supras are pretty cool though. Drag racing is ok. I'm getting my Miata within the week and am probably going to turn it into a SPEC racing car. All about the handling baby.

(on the side: Cryss, was that serious enough for you or am i still a pretentious asshole?)

Oh, and some good sites to look at are like cardomain.com for other cars... and a lot of the individual car forums (google it up for like Supra Drag racing forums)and you'll get sites like NS for individual cars, usually they have some great explanations and tips on stuff like that.

Aint drag races the ones where massive long thin cars get up to about 200 mph on a straight mile long track and then use parachutes to stop? the whole thing lasts like 16 seconds??

16? Try 4-5. Street legal drags run around 10-16. Top fuel runs 4-5.

i have a 97 jetta v6 with turbo,it can run a 1/4 in 12 sec, its called street racing by the way, i agree that supras are fuckin sick but they r way expensive,my 2nd choice would prob be a mazda rx-8

Mr. 97 Jetta. Its not called street racing unless its on a street you fuckwad. Dragging is done on a timed course. The legal (and not dumb) way. Find yourself a course in your area where you can get timeslips and such its a much more rewarding experiance than revving your engine at a stop light like a fucking fool.

every friday night in Misson B.C (near VAncouver) its street legal 1/4 mile. its sweet, so many fast cars, 15 secands? for an apperently suped up ford ranger? i guess thats ok, nothing special though

Yeah ok, the Miata outpreforms the RX7 AND 8 in handling and autocross events. Now take a Miata w/ an RX-7 engine (or a Chevy Small block for that matter) and lets see who wins. I bet its the Miata. Theres a Miata with a small block chevy engine that can run 11s quarter miles and do a 0-60 in 3.5 sec... eat your fucking heart out RX-7... plus would you ever really be able to afford an RX-7? And once again, street racing is gay. Bring an RX-7 to an Autocross event vs a good Miata, and it'll get its ass handed to it.

Most lame cars made? Saying that RIGHT THERE tells me you don't know what the fuck you're talking about AT ALL. The Miata is one of the best designed, most reliable, best preforming cars EVER. People who know what they are talking about respect the Miata. I will take ANY stock Miata and own your Jetta at anything besides a gay straight on drag. Drag racing takes no more skill than the ability to hold the car straight and shift right (yeah yeah, I know about double clutching and all, but seriously, is that skill?) Let me ask you this. Who was the one that did any modifications to your car? Did your daddy/boyfriend/mechanic do it for you? Bitch.

is a bmw 325is any good. I was thinking about getting a 88 and tuning it. would a 325is or 325ix be better. 325is is rwd, while i325x is 4wd.

I personally like RWD cars soo much better.. but I'd assume that the whole 4wd deal is better for going skiing and snow performance, if that matters to you.

BMWs have an INSANE group of fanatic followers who love their cars, so I'd assume than an older 3 series would be a great choice because so many people love their old 3 series. I hear that they have great engines. But I'd guess that you'd have to spend quite a bit of money in the engine area to make it really fast.

Look online at some BMW forums I'm sure they have great info.

AutoX is the only way to go if you want to show off your driving ablility... Drag can be done by a parapeligic with a brick strapped to his foot. If your really into drag than you want to look at power to weight ratios (car weight to top or maximum ouput in power) Power is usually quoted as horses (though its quoted for the engine and not what you actually get at the wheels). If your really into drag racing than modifications including forced induction or nos are the only ways to really get times up unless you strip your car of everything....(ac..radio..carpet...seats ect.) Ide suggest turbo if you know what your doing...superchargers are basically the same thing but they get power from your engine while turbo gets it from heated exhaust. Nos will fuck up your car no matter what...even if u account for it with extra modifications your just stressing the car too much. My friend has a 99 subaru rs special edition which is very very well set up for both drag and autox..times to date include sub 13 second times..hes working on high 12s but that costs money.. No matter what racing costs money..Ide suggest going the legal way as the consequences of getting caught are really high and it isnt any different whether your at a track or at the street the overall process is the same. Road is a road...at least at a track you get a speed reciet where you can check response times and all that other stuff and thats always helpfull...

 
my frind has a prelude V-TEC and he has a direct port nitrous fogger system it runs a 10 second 1/4 mile. he works full time and spends so much money on his car that he is broke and lives with his mom.

i just sold my audi s4 avant. it had a drop, sway bars, struts and racing suspension. not much modification other than that. i am working with my grandpa on putting a 55 chevy together right now though, it is going to haul. he has body for a 32 ford roadster thats in really nice shape, and i want to put some work into that when im bored

Definitely gotta keep racing out of the streets, But we need more tracks. A lot of areas have no tracks to go to, no legal areas. The turns are where its at though, dragging is dumb. Can't wait til I can start doing autox or a full road course some day.

 
well, i was into this whole street racing thing for about a year, but then i realized that i don't need all that shit. I'm getting something functional that i can go skiing with. Probably a Nissan XTerra or a Jeep Wrangler...

over the summer my friends and I always go down the line ups in Woodbridge... there are some pretty nice cars down there... I remeber one night a stock Impala beat a Civic with around $20,000 of mods in it! Oh wait that was also the night that I pushed a mustang off the road in my truck.. hahah good times!

Aeden come down to the races with us sometime. meet us there.. we were in woodbridge on saturday. showing off his truck and his friends cars.. haha i've never seen so many drags and cops and they even had the helicopter with the spotlight out. they were doing burnouts in the parking lot too. by colossus

Its a method used to reduce wear on your gearbox + clutch. You do it like this. Instead of shifting directly into the next gear, you want to push in the clutch, shift into neutral, let out the clutch, let the engine slow down from high revs, then push clutch in and shift to the gear. There wont be that noticible shake that occurs when shifting.

double clutching is something you used to have to do, because of non-synchomesh transmissions. Now it is no longer necessary due to synchromesh tranny's in alomost everything. And its nothing that will make you go faster, like they say in the fast and the furious.
