i like pres. bush, but the proposed draft is bull shit. we have the most powerful miltiary in the world and the only place we have major troops placed are afghanistan and iraq, and those are getting under control. we dont need a draft, unless someones planning WW III. (this is not a presidental debate threaed)

well, i was plannin on joinin the military to begin with. if there's gonna be a draft then im joinin what i want before im placed somewhere.

^ You my friend are the moron. What you said holds very little relevance to what will prob. happen in the future. Everyone is reading a small piece by a journalist in Vancouver that was written last year. The draft will most likely not be re-activated.

The fact is that there is little need for a draft. Keep in mind that we have only lost 1,000 troops in Iraq. In terms or war, that is an incredibly small casualty rate. The only reason we ever had drafts was because we needed large groups of people to fight in a conflict. We needed troops to add to the front line and also to replace the ones that got killed. Iraq is by no means at that level yet. Anyone who thinks a draft in immanent in the near future is mistaken. There is no need for one. Simple as that.

Yeah If it were only a bombing campgain then we could realistically expect around zero casualities but when your occupying a country and theres suicide bombers and ambushes and shit people are gonna die. But if you compare Iraq to veitnam we prolly lost as many people a day in veitnam as weve lost over the last two years in Iraq.

There probably won't be a draft, and I'm hoping I'm right, because I don't want flocks of Americans crowding Canada, not that I'm anti-american, but would you like millions of Canadians appearing out of nowhere in the U.S? Also, before there's a draft, they'll be sending extra troops (in mass numbers, more than usual). Don't start worrying until that happens.

No... the draft is GOOD. It gets people involved in politics who wouldn't normally be. See... the good thing about the draft is that if you're old enough to be drafted, you're old enough to vote.

I've heard about some alliance type thing formed with Canada, so that if a draft were to be reinstated, draft runners trying to get into Canada would be turned around right back into America. I'm not sure if its true..I'm pretty sure ErikT told me about it.

I was drafted in Slovakia and I do not give a shit. We do not have a professional army, so everyone as to serve at least 6 months and if shit happens, you can get called in. Being a college student I could put it away and after 2006 (I will graduate in 2007) we will have a pro army ahahaha so I will not have to go anywhere

i think a volunteer army is what makes our army great. the fact we have ample training for each troop that comes in. if you force people to fight, they'll fight half-assed, like the roman slaves 'oh no, we'll be freed from our masters'

but seriously, even though i do see it as a dumb idea, i'd still serve my country with the best of my ability, because if im asked by my fellow countrymen to help defend what i know i probably take for granted, i'll help

yea what jibempyre said was true if a draft is reinestated there are measure that would be put in place stopping people from going to Canada. And anyone who is intereted search these two bills S 89 and HR 163 they are bills backed by bushes that if passed would reinstate a draft.
