Hey guys I would like some insight on what the hell I did to my knee.

ss

First off I am going to the doctor but just wanted to know if you guys knew anything.

So about 2 or so weeks ago I went for about a 7 mile run. The next day I had lacrosse practice and I played in that with no problems or anything hurting. After that practice my knee started hurting a bunch. I was having problems walking up stairs and was hobbling around for a week or so. I iced it occasionally and went to about two practices where it never hurt too bad or anything but after practice it would be a little bit sorer than before.

So I stayed away from too much physical activity for a while and tried to ice it a bunch. Then today finally it felt pretty good and I wasn't having any problems with it. So I decided to go to lacrosse practice. It was feeling good for most of the practice and I was pretty happy. Then about halfway in I go to dodge behind the goal and my knee just shifts way out of position and I felt a decent amount of pain in it(not a rediculous amount). I finish my dodge and score and immediately hobble off the field. I knew something was wrong so I just stopped playing. It hurts a little more now than it did about 2 weeks ago.

I am just worried that it is something bad like an ACL or MCL or something. It hasn't really swollen up too much. I just finished icing it for about a half hour and am gonna try to keep doing it and take it easy for a while besides that.

I just wanna take it easy so I don't hurt my knee before ski season...:-/

if you did something to your acl you would be in a lot more pain. mcl or pcl on the other hand could be different. Im pretty sure a slightly tore my pcl during soccer try outs (1 month ago) and I only have pain when I run a lot. Could have a minor tear. Im no expert but thats my 2 cents

I tore my mcl in lax last season. If u did tear or sprain your mcl or acl you would not only be in a lot of pain when you walk and run, but just standing your knee would feel unstable like you could shift it out of place to the left or the right. If ur knee just hurts and doesnt feel unstable possibilities could be a popped bursa sack (if there is swelling?). Hopefully not an mcl or acl, i had to sit out my senior season :(. Hopefully for you its just growing pains

if it only hurts when you start moving and running it might be your miniscus. tore mine.

specially if its just a sharp pain when you start to run. it never really swelled up much. just would have a pin needle like pain and wouldnt be able to run very well..

have orthoscopic surgery and you'll be back to strength in a month if you follow the physical therapy right.

20. Im a junior at UVM.

As far as the pain goes, it hurts a bunch tonight but hopefully it will be better as the days go on. It did last time. It doesnt really hurt when I'm not moving it but when I walk it hurts a little and I kinda have to hobble. I don't think I can run now or it would look awfully ridiculous

i do xc for my school and that usually happens when people run too much all at once without build-up or anything. and its usually stress or something related. i had something similar but not as bad. but id be carefull going to the doctor, they tend to take you out of sports and stuff for a while. also, if it was acl or something you would def know. but im not an actual doctor so what do i know..

Sounds like it could be your meniscus. It's very similar to what my injuries were like. On a different note, I'm going for my 3rd vist to UVM in a few weeks, and I want to play at the club level. How competitive is it, and what's the overall feel of the team? I'd really like to keep playing lacrosse if I can in college, though I know I wouldn't be recruited to play D1.

Could be your meniscus or acl, I torn both and was able to ski fine (no park but skiing aggressively) and I skied down after I hurt it. Everybody says it hurts really bad but mine didn't. I noticed somehting was wrong when I tried front 360s on my skateboard and it shifted out of place and hurt really bad like yours did. Go to a doctor though, get an mri.

Could be shin splits. If you put pressure the area between your shin and your knee and their is pain, then it most likely is that. If not then you could just sprained a ligament in your knee, RICE it and if it doesn't feel any better within 72 hours see a doctor.

Thats cool man I was gettin recruited their for lax but i decided I didn't want D1 commitment so Im at Tufts now playing and having a great time. Club is awesome too. hope your knee is nothing serious

thanks for the reply. how long did it take you to get back to full strength?

as far as Club lax. Its pretty chill, all the people who play are super nice. Practices as really chill. Come to as many as you can/want. We are a excellent club team here. We've gone two years undefeated in our division and won the championships both years. We're scrimmaging a bunch of d3 schools next friday so that should be fun too. You don't even need to try out, just come and lax.

It could be your meniscus, but if this is what you'd done I'd have thought that you'd have felt it happen. I had mine repaired this spring. When I did mine I knew straight away that something was wrong and the pain went from sore to unable to put weight on it in about half an hour. On the other hand when the surgeon went in he said that some of meniscus and cartilage damage wasn't recent (don't know when I did it though).
Another possibility is a seized up IT band. I went to Whistler this summer and after about a week I started having knee problems. My knee would buckle under me when walking, sometimes just seize up for a split second (with sharp pain) and swell up every day. I thought I'd f**ked it again as I should have taken more time off between the surgery on my meniscus and going skiing again.
Went to the physio who started loosening up my IT band and the problems almost gone away. It still swells after exercise (particularly bad the following day) but doesn't hurt while I'm actually doing it. After a bit of IT band stretching it starts to go away again (get yourself your own foam roller if this is the problem, its worth it). I'd never had problems with my IT band before surgery and had no idea that it could cause such problems. On the plus side it is pretty easy to rehab.
Never done my ACL so don't really know the signs and symptoms for that. I'd expect you'd be having a lot more trouble if it had fully torn though.

I think it is my meniscus then. Because it did go from sore to unable to put weight on it pretty quickly. It took me about 25 mins to walk up to class today when it normally takes me like 15 because I was limping pretty badly.

It hurts on the outside of my knee and on the knee cap a little towards the outside. Its swollen a little bit but nothing too ridiculous.

I got a doctors appointment tomorrow so I'll see how that goes.
