Dr NS-anyone whith knee injuries

I hurt my knee tramping a week and a half ago, felt like my knee was being twisted (i had my leg straight and wasn't expecting to bounce).

It hurt a lot at the lower part of my knee (below my rotula) in front not back for 10mins, then went back tramping as it didnt hurt (bad idea i know)

Since then, acute pain at the same spot when in hyperextension but no pain at all when i press my fingers hard all over my knee. No pain when I bend a lot. I've been icing a lot and put special sprain cream on, so no swellings and doesnt feel like theres any water.

I cant go to a doctor as im working 7 to 9 all week until 2 days before im meant to go skiing at les 2 alpes.

Im trying to figure out if this is a pcl or mcl sprain so i can do proper rehab exercices (found some on internet, dunno what they're worth?)

It is bad enough for you to want to do rehab, but not to the point of seeing someone (Dr or PT), and it doesn't hinder you from your job? I would say try light stretching and see if there is anything in particular that aggravates it. Hopefully it is a mild sprain in which case you need to just lay off it for a little, let it heal, and then stretch to improve your range of motion.

Definitely continue to ice it and rest it for a few weeks. Knee problems suck when ski season returns.

Thanks but heres the thing: i dont have a few weeks, i have 11 days until im skiing park for a week. But the main point of this thread was to ask you guys what it is, i thought either mcl or pcl sprain but i dunno, and rehab exercices are different...i really need my knee to be healed in 11 days tho

Try jogging in place, then high knees, butt kicks. If those are fine, then try jumping, start just jumping onto one step, then see how much you can push it (working towards a squat and then exploding into a jump). If those are fine, move to lateral jumps. Start with two legs for the support, then go to outside leg (eg. Push off right going left, land on left and push off to the right...), then lastly try inside leg (opposite of previous, you kind of crossover). If you can handle all that, I would recommend doing squats or leg press (whichever you can do better form wise) starting light then moving up the weight as long as there is no pain. I always found that to be helpful in terms of strength/endurance and preventing knee pain. Also, I'm no doctor, this is simply what I would do in your situation. Lastly, with the doctor/job thing, if it is preventing you from working (even slightly), or bothering you at work, you should really see a doctor before it gets worse (like tell your boss and get an hour or two off).

Reread the first post, I was half alseep earlier. Is the pain more outside or inside? And it could be something that was put in compression or something with cartilage also (there are a lot of things that can cause knee pain). Either way, the more specific you can be on what causes pain, the better (eg, jumping, lateral, bearing weight, etc.). Also, what is your time frame? This can affect whether it is better to rest or exercise. If it isn't too far away, I wouldn't want you to make it worse doing exercise, which is potentially easy to do because you don't know what's wrong.

Thanks for taking the time to answer dude! about work, i sell hamburgers in a truck in the middle of nowhere pretty much (im living at my grandparent's house for now) and dont actually know any doctors too. Ill try to go see one tho, but my fear is that he ll tell me not to go skiing, which i just cant do xD

As for the pain it feels more inside and im pretty sure its a sprain from what i felt at the injury. Im scared too of exercising and making it worse but i guess this is as much help i can get without a doc...thanks a lot doe!

No problem. If your worried about the doctor saying no, just be honest and respectfully tell him you will and ask what the risk are. I tore my labrum a while back, first doctor (at school) said no skiing. Went to see my doctor at home, told him that I love skiing and that I would be doing it, but I wanted to know what the risks are. We decided that skiing was fine, and just to avoid rails and big jumps/drops. I still got to play around on the little jumps

Got cut off. Essentially, to us skiing is like walking, but then other stuff is comparable to running or even parkour. Walking is ok, but you will need to watch out for some of the other ones when you aren't 100%. Good luck, post back here with progress and maybe one of us can help you figure it out.

I got the same pain, and I went to PT for it also. They said it was because my knee was sliding wrong. This was caused because I built up one side of my quad more than the other, causing one side to pull more and my knee sliding wrong. This might be what you have, but it is good to check with a doctor just to make sure.

Thanks again man! Yeah seeing a doctor and telling him that is probs the best idea, ill make sire to update here. Hopefully with a vid of me hitting some big kicker :)

more likely than not its your (medial) meniscus that got a little twisted. This can present without noticeable swelling because there is so much room for fluid to diffuse within the knee. Ice, rest, get it checked out to be sure its not anything more

I tore my patella like 3 times over the course of a year, had a great sports therapist tho and helped me make a decent recovery(proper healing). Make sure you do proper physio if there actually is a problem, i'd say since youre a skier try and see a sports medicine person!

First off you don't "tear" your patella. It's a bone. It fractures. You can tear your paterllar ligament or tendon. To OP what side does it hurt more on? If it's in the middle is it above or below your kneecap?
