Downhill Bikes

Either one will be good. I favor the part spec on the Demo, but the Glory isn't too shabby either. Both have good frames, good brakes, good forks, and good wheels. That's all that matters, the rest is interchangable- and both bikes fare well with all the rest anyway. I would go for the Glory because I like the way that DW and Maestro link bikes feel, but having said that, I've never ridden a Demo.

I'd get the Glory, but depending on exactly how much each bike has been ridden, it might factor into my choice.

Specs wise: Get the glory.Suspension wise: If you are racing a little, the glory will be better as the demo is a big cow compared to the glory. Money wise: you get better components for your money on the glory.
Only thing I don't like on the glory: Those wheels, make sure to always check your spoke tension, my friend rode them for a week, on some DJ and they were already starting to get out of true. And he was super smooth with them. But if you don't mind giving your bike a little love after each ride, you will like it. I had a glory before, and loved it. If you feel the rear suspension is kinda stiff, go for a Elka shock, all made here in quebec, they are AAAWWEEESOOOOMMEEE!! haha!

When you do, you don't have to go for anything crazy expensive.

Transition Revolution wheelsests are strong, cheap, good looking, and although they're a little bulky, this is a DH bike you're dealing with. They're about $300 dollars for the wheelset. If you're worried about rotational weight, you can just opt for lighter tires... and as far as wheels go, they aren't that heavy anyway.

the glory has ncer components cept the wheels obviously but the demo's wheels also are not great they are the specialized wheels which are dt swiss but are still weak so i think the bikes are even

theyre basically even as specs go, but i would get the demo if i were you. Ive rideen both bikes and i just dont like the feel of the glory compared to the demo. Get the demo

if you're set on spending that amount of cash, i'd look into a demo 7 with some dh specs if i were you.... something like this: http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/660156/

it should be a more nimble and maneuverable ride instead of a plow through anything bike. i mean, it will still take anything you throw at it but i've found that "lighter" bikes make you a far better rider. check em out! but really, both demo 8s and giant glorys are sick bikes.. def can't go wrong with either.

if you're 100% sure you're not gonna get more into freeride, i'd go with the glory. if you think your tastes might change, i'd probably go with the demo. i haven't spent enough time on either bike to tell you from personal experience, that's just what i've heard/read

Although I've never ridden a Glory, I LOVE the feel of the Demos. If you're looking for a big bike, and not something short travel, I think the Demos are hard to beat. The bike is just so easy to ride.

well if your looking for whees and are a lighter rider I have a friend who is selling some DT Swiis on pink bike- I would buy them if i had the cash

yeah that was only an example of how demo 7's can be built. i biking buddy of mine has his demo 7 equiped with a boxxer wc fork, fox dhx5 shock, code breaks and a hammerschmidt crank set. the thing is my dream bike! he can even pedal it back up through most of our trails even with his build... the frame is so light (for a dh bike) yet so strong, its insane!

I'm super into DH. Here are my thoughts. Both bikes are on the same level of performance, so you just need to decide what frame geometry you want. The chainstays on the Demo are a lot shorter, so it will turn like a beast, but MIGHT feel twitchy at high speeds (that being said, the world speed record for a bike is on a Demo with stock geometry). THe Demo will also be lighter. If you're looking for new wheels, get Mavic 721s built onto Hope Pro IIs. That will run you around $300 from chainreactioncycles.com. If the 721s are out of stock, pick a different rim, like MTX 31s. I have MTX 31s on Pro IIs and I love them.

I'm personally not big into DH racing, i do XC so i don't know a ton about these bikes. But from what i know about XC bikes i would probably go with the Specialized Demo. I wouldn't worry too much about the fact that it's been ridden, just make sure to bleed the breaks. And i wouldn't recommend going straight to riding hills, test it out on some trails and make sure you firgure out the feel of the bike. Sorry i can't be more help.

I haven't ridden a Demo, but I have ridden the 08 Glory, 09 Glory and the new 2010 Glory. All 3 are amazing and are great for racing. I bet the Demo is great too, but you will not be dissapointed when buying the Glory.

I agree with most of the stuff said in this thread so far, and for me it pretty much comes down to if you're gonna race DH, get the demo, and if you just like to go DH with your friends, and want to get in to freeride, get the glory.

That is if these 2 are your only options. otherwise there are lots of other sick bikes I'd also look at, depending on where you ride and what you want to ride

I have ridden both the Glory and the Demo, and have a slight (actually a strong) preference for the Glory.
Although I ride a Sunday now, bummer about IH...

also what really matters is no matter which one of those you buy, they're both sick bikes, you'll be happy with it, and you're gonna have a ton of fucking fun riding it.

get a good helmet and some knee pads (or full knee-shins) and giv'er hell

I definately agree with this. I find that Specialized is a solid company, always satisfied with their stuff.

Demo no doubt.

The rear end of the demo I rode was so plush, and the low CoM makes it super stable, but the slack head angle working in combination with the rear end makes it super responsive too

This is pretty much a personal preference dealio.

Both bikes have a similar-quality build spec, both frames are great, and both are made by HUGE bike companies.

Both will ride well, and both will be awesome in general. You get to choose whichever you like- the Demo has a sexier frame and color scheme, but the Glory has the Maestro (pretty much DW link) which I very much like.

I think so. Compared with other suspension designs I've ridden, the Maestro is awesome. I don't personally own a Maestro or DW link bike, but I wish I did. Instead, I have GT's iDrive, which is also an excellent system, which I like very much. I'm assuming a Fury is out of your price range, however, and between the two bikes you've given us to choose from for you, I'd go with the Glory.

Yes. The maestro's ability to stay agile and plush under pretty intensive braking is amazing. As others have said, it is very similar to the DW link.
Not to take anything away from the FSR suspension design, you cant really go wrong with either bike.
One other thing to consider is the BB height. Demo's are notoriously low. Good, because it moves the weight really low keeping you pretty solid, Bad because on more then a few occasions, my buddy has felt his scrape on logs, rocks, ect...
(thats riding Big Sky btw)

thanks the last two guys who posted, im still undecided though, i pmed the glory owner and it has about 30 rides on it to which is the same as the demo and a bunch of parts only have like 3 days on them
