DONT SUPPORT GRENADE GLOVES!!! read inside

This is the worst part. This shit happens all the time and it's totally unacceptable. I can only imagine how hard it is for someone who makes a living of taking photos only to have companies think they can use them without paying. Fuck Grenade, if they're stupid enough to hire piece of shit employees who think they are above the law than they don't deserve anybodies business. I really hope this story blows up and fucks over Grenade. Everyone needs to spread this story around because this is bullshit.

haha that sucks... guys obviously a fool for not putting a fuckin tag on his photos, but that ceo's way bigger of a dick for power tripping so hard. either way we're here to shred, who cares about a fucking photo- if they used it and didnt pay for it, thats crap, but theres a point where i would just say fuck it, its not worth it to deal with some classless hack like joseph caplocks or whatever.

thats so fucking stupid... i lold when i saw that all the ceo emails were sent from his ipad though....

it would be so funny to watch him get super pissed off but at the same time have to focus REALLY HARD on hitting the right letters. haha

And to think I was going to grab some of their Rogue Status collab pieces even though the quality isn't up to par with the price tag...If anyone is on any snowboarding forums, post this BS up

That guy Joe sounds like one of the most unintelligent, irrational, and poorly expressed people I have ever heard of.

How does he have this level of power with those writing skills?

And sidenote, I have dealt with similar issues with companies, and had just as poor results. But hey who am I? It happens all too often in this industry.

Lol I bet he thought he owned you with this one: "I can tell you this if you are such a great photographer

This must be why I never heard of you because you waste people’s time."

How can anyone who writes like that be the CEO of anything? How can he even get a job?

Yeah man I feel what you are saying here. I mean just the other week, I labored in this guys yard working 4 12 hour days taking out his old deck and putting a new one in. I had to buy all the materials, and it was like a 2 hour drive to where he lived. I haven't gotten paid for it yet so I've just said fuck it. I mean the guy I was doing it for was kind of annoying. Not even worth my time to fight.

The photographer should be earning well over ten thousand dollars on this case- Assuming his original quote should have been around $700-$1000 dollars (that is, assuming a lot of stuff), then multiplied 15-20 times... and since he did in fact send invoices with late fees etc, it is in his full legal right to demand the fees he put forward.

He'd better get his money, and Grenade will never have my support.

i stopped even thinking about buying Grenade stuff ever since that whole Danny Kass halfpipe ordeal and how halfpipe sholud only be for snowboarders. Now I will definitely not buy their stuff!

a company run/owned by danny kass is less than desirable to do business with...

shocking.

WOW.. that was enlightening.. The first guy he emailed with could barely articulate... did he even graduate high school? And then the CEO.. what a joke!! (that last email from the iPad was outrageous).
but hopefully this photographer will learn to mark his work... that was definitely a misstep on his part, doesn't change much though, i hope he gets a nice settlement...
oh yeah.. but let's just remember.. regardless of this story, grenade sucked... horrible quality (you get what you pay for).. plus their outerwear is, in general, ugly.. and never seems to change from year to year..

This. Fucking. Sucks. Ripping someone off for something they created is absolutely unforgivable.

I hope he gets his dough - and my grenades have swiftly been disposed of

That's disgusting. And by god, those guys are ridiculously dumb. I don't even have anything to say about that CEO specifically, he just seems like a real scuzzy guy.

hahaha $1,000 for a blog photo? more like a free glove, maybe next month he can earn the other one.

Any NS snowboarders know if this is big news on any snowboard forums?
I'm sure it helps a little bit getting the word out on a skiing forum...but I'm sure if this was on a snowboard forum it would be infinitely times more effective at getting this asshole to pay up

Wow really hope he gets his money, shits not right. Its a wonder how brands run by illiterate, unprofessional twats, like this, stay in business. Hopefully this damages there rep even further

Is it standard practice for professional photographers to release full size non tagged photos to riders in order for them to take back to their sponsors??? Seems like this guy should have had an agreement on money in the first place before they used the photos yes????

Thats pretty fucked up. Definitely won't buy any grenade gear anymore. I wanna keep tabs on this. I know this was just posted yesterday but does anyone know if he actually took them to jail?

the people in skiing are SOOO much cooler and chill then the people in the snowboard business. just look at ON3P's thread and how helpful and professional they are.

"snowboard industry is full of dickbags and theives."

Woah, not the whole industry, maybe just grenade. I havnt had any problems with snowboard companys. Though Grenade are definetly "dickbags".

both people were out of line here. but that photog needs to chill, he was obviously trying to piss that guy off. it might seem like the professional thing to do, but going on a war path like that is just causing trouble to feed your ego. Get the photo taken down then move on.

"You can be sure I will be asking for a great deal more than the

original $XXX I quoted you and I can guarantee that I will also be

awarded legal fees since the photos are copyrighted. Legal fees that

Grenade will be responsible for paying. I somehow doubt I even need to

tell you that if you decide to go further with this, I will win. Grenade

has infringed on my copyrighted work and is therefore is in the wrong. I

will win.

I have screen shots of my photo on your website and I’ve saved all of our email conversations.

Your call. You have 3 days."

^ i think this is what im talking about.

Like mentioned earlier man, that's his job. That's how he makes a living. The 4 days of deck work example ^^^ there somewhere is funny but fairly accurate too. If anything the photographer was being pretty cool about everything, trying to talk to the guy, not just calling a lawyer and the Copyright Infringement office right away. When thats how he makes his living, sure maybe moving on one time is not a big deal, but a lot of it probably comes down to principle. Photographers don't make tons of money, and being the kind of person that will just give in to a barely literate CEO that's avoiding paying for copyrighted work does not help that cause.

it certainly is his job. however turning it into an internet spectacle, rather than a learning experience does not bring him the kind of attention hes looking for. its one way to promote yourself i guess.

if it were me, id have resent it with my credit on the photo and a link to my website. We're talking about a blog post here, on a glove manufacturers website.

he quoted his invoice with $XXX. if that first X is anything but a 0, hes asking too much. A blog posting is better served for self promotion than making a living.

You'd be surprised. How much do you think Grant Gunderson gets for a Powder mag cover? More like $XXXX. and the first digit isn't 1 every time.

I'm sorry but a photo is a photo, and usage is usage. It doesn't matter whether its a blog post or the background on your web page, it is still internet use of the photo. It is his job, yes, and he could have not turned it into an internet spectacle. However, as a photographer, I am glad he did, because I will not even bother trying to sell Grenade an image, ever, because of the inconvenience it could cause me. He has potentially saved me and a lot of others from a whole shit ton of crap we no longer will have the possibility of having to deal with.
