Found on Reddit, AlpineHawk is a ski alarm system that when activated, will emit a loud ringing if it detects your skis are being moved ie. stolen while you're in the chalet. It also connects to your smartphone so you are notified when the alarm goes off.

Do not use while shredding backcountry, it will just cause an avalanche and there are no thieves.
 
Would buy this if the price was right as well as having a GPS locator...whats to stop a ski thief from just smashing the device?
 
I just llld at how the ski thief was wearing a leather jacked as to make him look like a criminal.

but seriously i agree with you. not a bad idea but in practice, for less than 50 bucks (what the article says it will cost, ish) i can be more practical
