In retrospect, my reading might’ve been a bit in bad faith, so you’re right that he never explicitly “railed on” anybody other than the ‘journalist’ here. that. That said, you don’t need empirical evidence to know that black people and POC in general aren’t present in skiing to a degree that’s representative of the percentage of the US population they make up. If you ski often, it’s pretty obvious, and that holds true for the other parts of the outdoor sports umbrella I’m familiar with. Whether that’s because of financial barriers to entry, the culture, or something else entirely is worth questioning, though, so the idea that they’re disenfranchised in the outdoor rec world is an entirely reasonable one.
On another note, as somebody who does identify as a leftist, the idea that Outdoor Mag is a “radical leftist outlet” is laughable; it’s almost impossible to read it as anything other than a centrist liberal magazine.
