DOMA and Prop. 8

Just heard on NBC that both DOMA and Prop. 8 were shot down in the Supreme Court just moments ago. Quite a huge decision. I support it, and am happy about the decisions. How about you Newschoolers, what do you think?

Yup.

Honestly it's unbelievable that we even need to have such a debate over this topic. It's a huge victory though, I'm pretty excited. Now we just need to wait for the remaining states to get their shit together, the South's probably going to be pretty damn slow.

now obama can take his 100 million dollar safari and fix Africa before he tries to fix the US which he hasnt tried to do at all.....

Reading the court's opinion is fucking disgusting. They're all for state's rights when it comes to gay marriage, but all opposed when it comes to marijuana legalization. These assholes don't have an ethical bone in their body. They even recognize that the Constitutionality of DOMA is not in question, but they still find a way to repeal it. Newsflash assholes, your powers are supposed to be limited to checking the Constitutionality of executive and legislative actions. You can't repeal a law just because you don't like it.

Somebody needs to walk into the court and execute them all Boondock Saints style. This ruling, like many before it, is a blatant act of breaking their sacred oath to uphold the Constitution (a federal felony). Why does nobody charge them? Oh yes, I forgot, Eric Holder is a fucking scumbag as well.

Yeah i don't care so much about the fact that gay marriage is legal as much as the fact that they were not the ones to choose wether it should be or not. All hail the invincible Supreme Court

Did you really just compare gay marriage to legal marijuana?

You may have smoked yourself stupid on this one

Awesome news. Bout. Fucking. DAMN. Time.

Prop 8 was the biggest bullshit as it was.. as was DOMA...

Pride festival in San Francisco is going to be psychotic...

loling at how long it took us. This is great, But its bad if it takes us decades to agree on a decision that over half the nation is in favor of.

Federal law sees it as a legitimate marriage allowing gay couples who are married to receive tax breaks, health care benefits, and the same shit you get as being married to a woman. BUT the state you live in can decide whether it's legal or not.

although explained irrationally, he has a point. No victims, no crime. It should be about civil liberties. However, instead they have to convince some old politician who believes the bible that they should be allowed to be married. Politicians only respond to dollar signs hence the rate at which the gays make progress. Bring it to an internet vote. Make it a yes and no. What do the people want?! no more of this promised tax money from marijuana. Make it for the people. And for this prop 8 vote, lets hope the states make the right call now #propeople

Things that happened today.

A: Gay Marriage is legal in CA.

B: If you get gay married in CA, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and other dingbat states can't say you're not married if you move there (why you'd want to do that, I do not know)

C: The federal government can't fuck you over taxes for not being married traditionally.

I don't give a fuck I'm just happy that it's over. Finally we can stop focusing on unimportant social issues and work on fixing the economy.

seeing that this has a lot to do with the economy (what with the tax issues in place and what-not) I don't see how you could claim this as simply a social issue.

Also, you probably fail to realize how big of a cash cow the wedding industry is... This means a lot more potential work for me as a photographer and a videographer, as well as a lot more work for florists, planners, lawyers, those who run wedding venues, caterers, etc...

Everything is tied man... besides... this 'fixing the economy' you speak of isn't something we can fix in America until we take on a banking system similar to something like Canada's... which wont happen what with the current lobby involved. AKA: we're fucked.

Sure they might be tied but not in a large enough way to actually create an impact. And there are plenty of ways to get the economy fixed but nobody is willing to take a cut anywhere so the spending isn't going to stop.

No.. no impact at all.. just thousands, or perhaps millions of potential jobs..

Spending isn't going to stop... and it's not the ultimate issue. Its unregulated banking, massive tax breaks and the wealthy putting all their money in the Caymans and Swiss accounts that are the real issue...

Each year there are 2.5 million weddings in the US... if you want to divide that by 10 just for California alone, that's 2.5 million weddings (which is probably more, since California is a wedding destination state as it is)

If the national average of weddings goes up even half a million more.. hell a quarter million more... just due to homosexual marriages, that's going to potentially give you upwards a million jobs depending on the average amount of employment that comes due to the increased numbers.

Simple math.

a 40 billion dollar industry that now has a whole new population to draw from? That's going to result in a LOT of jobs for me, and YES potentially millions more people.

why would there be half a million more marriages? There aren't even enough deranged gay idiots in this country to get married to bring it up that much.

deranged gay idiots, eh? Pretty sure you're the problem here...

Either way... whether it's a million, half a million, or 17 more marriages a year, that = jobs and money being spent in this country. Probably the most overlooked thing about these bills.

people always bitch about the economy and forget how much jobs are tied to it... you want to bitch about restriction on business? look at DOMA and Prop 8, conservatives... Massive restriction no matter what you want to claim about 'traditional' bullshit.

If you're speaking about Jesus...

he didn't say fuck all about homosexuality.
