my dog is not really able to wag his tail. he is the happiest dog in the world and pretty much never stops waging his tail. but today he started walking a little funny and his tail like kinda lumps out from his but. i got close to him and started rubbing his ears and sayin his name in a really calm and happy voice and it doesnt move. BEFORE you say take him to the vet, im in germany and nothing is open on sunday. so i just wanted to know if anyone else has had a dog that acts like this, im gettin worried about him.

thanks, cory

like an hour ago when i walked him. i gave him a bath also like 10 minutes ago. and when he shakes his tail does not move and he cries.

i know, im going to tomorrow in the morning. and no, he just chills with us, and when we leave we have a friend watch him and my other dog.

does he have hip issues. 3 of our dogs have had hip issues, and it seems somewhat similar to what happens when they have a bad day with their hips. obviously don't make him do anything strenuous and maybe be close to him a lot.

i dont think so, i mean he is only 4. and ya, he stays by my side all the time. sleeps in my room and everything.

a lot of dogs are born with some dysplasia, so a 4 year old (especially if he is a big dog) with hip problems isn't that unusual. one of ours had it so bad she had to get surgery when she was like 2. but anyway, i hope all turns out well.

ya, our old dog that has been gone for like 10 years and really bad hip probs. my dog samson now though is a black lab. so those are not that big, but ya i hope it goes well also.

yeah, my dog broke his tail, pretty much exactly as you describe it. Im quite positive its a broken tail.

ya im startin to think that, cause it like has a kink in it. idk how he would ave broke it though.

My Black Lab just had some serious knee surgery. Definitely check for the broken tail. My Boomer, my black lab, acts up some days when he eats stuff he should have. This includes pantyhose, rocks, entire backs of cat food, and socks. Black Labs are awesome dogs though!

Omg dude my black lab eats everythinggggg too, and then pukes it up, and eats it again and so on. If he doesn't clean up after himself i got 2 other dogs to do so. Ahah gross I know.

Probably a broken tail...happened to my brothers cat last year sounds exactly the same. Typically the vet will give you the option of leaving a limp dead tail on there or having them cut it off...let them cut it off, other wise it just gets all dirty and shit because they don't realize they have it because they can't feel it anymore.

not sure if anyone really cares, but we took him to the vet and they said it was just nerve damage and he should be back to normal in about 2 weeks or less. so happy

"Just" nerve damage?! Jesus, what kind of vet...?!

Well okay, anyway, if he still keeps walking funny at all, try and look which side is the one that is a more different. If both sides look "funny", then lay him down on his side (if you have someone to hold his head and front paws gently, then do so) and start stretching his hind legs.

First inward by putting the knee in and then gently against his stomach. Look at the dog's reaction to see if there are any spots or movements that hurt/anger it.

Then flex it to the back by straightening the whole leg while keeping a slight lock on the knee, each flex being about 30 seconds in relation to the dog's comfort zone.

From what it sounds like, my dog used to have similar symptoms and after a lot of diagnoses, it was for life - only helped by everyday stretching... Hopefully it is not the case, but stretching is always helpful.

ya, er were stretching his legs today. they said the nerves were up higher so it most likely hurts a little bit to walk. like when you sprain your foot, you walk with a little limp. and it was a german vet, so you never know.
