haha, and for a moment there i was really confused and thought it was a gash in his flesh, crazy pink bases. That is a deadly rail man

hey man, don't p-tex it. p-tex will come out really shitty and may not hold. Epoxy it, run it over a base grinder or have a local shop do it, then put some new wax on. It will hold much better than p-tex and will be clear so you can still show off your rad core shot.

no dont listen to them. cheap repair do it as much as you want and it will hold for a time. its about milk jugg.

get it stone grind first since that will level the hole out, and then get them to p-tex the base and then scrape the rest of the p-tex out. After they scrape it, have them stone grind again, it will make the base perfect. Don't just fill it with wax, the wax will do nothing for the preformance of the ski, and you ski will begin to break down since water will get inside.

Poor 4frnts, mine are fucked to all hell already too. a few bad landings on NY rocks and stuff like that is routine

i just messed up my bases tonight, kinda like the pic above.

now is it really better to try all these suggestions, or should i just let my shop do all the work...and how much do y'all think that would cost?

'I heard that Richard Gere gerbils. That is, he inserts gerbils into a paper towel tube, which he then sticks up his butthole. I don't doubt this, because he asked me if i wanted to come over to his house and gerbil. I insisted that he come over to MY house, since the whole thing seemed weird. As a practical joke, i attached a bucket of water to the top of the door so that when he opened it, I beat him with a mannequin leg.'-Skydaddy

if you know what you are doing then go a head and do it. If you don't care about your ski and you have now clue on what you are doing then just do it. If you take it to a shop they will fix the gash and tune your ski's for about 30 bucks. Well thats how much my place would do it for.

Mine does it for 10-15. They base the price on how much they like you and your skis, I kid you not. They see 4frnts, they go, 'hey, nice... ok, i'll do it for 10 bucks.'

I like my shop... but I wish they sold bindings for less unreasonable prices, power 110s are like 250$ cdn.

i know, poor msps. there orange bases, not pink. i am just going to see what my local shop thinks.

how big is the gash? Like, is it the length of a quarter? a dollar? It's hard to tell cause there is nothing to compare it with. It could be the size of a needle, just very zoomed in?

-Jason

hmmm..id say the main gash, not the scratched part, is about the length of 2 quarters in diameter. then i have a scratch from just about tip to tail on one ski. they are getting battered

take it too the shop. epoxy or some base filler then a layer of ptex. you should let the shop do it because you would need a blow tourch to get the ptex hot enoughto really bond in there. so epoxy some ptex and a layer or wax and your good to go

'some say i'm that girl... i say, wow that's wonderful! but you're still not getting any. now quit sniffing me! i don't even know you!'

-CanadianSkierGirl

epoxy, then p-tex, with some stone grinding to smooth it out is my vote. the way i see it, 10-20 dollars to fix your 500 dollar skis is a worthy investment.

grant

use laquer thinner or something on it first before the epoxy and ptex. it cleans the dirt and wax out and helps the ptex stick more so it wont fall out after a while.

use as much ptex and fiberglass that you can find its like ductape it fixes everything

the shit hasnt even begun to hit the fan

i had my local shop take care of about seven gashes on my skis this year. they do a BASE WELD and it holds! p-tex will come out. the shop will do a stone grind first too. it's a lot cheap than new skis, but each gash runs about $10, more if it's really bad, like the pic above.

the way i see it, shit will happen to your skis if you go all out and have fun. you can't let it get you down, or hold you to a leash.

*all hail to the mighty gods of snow*

My friend has a gash that is like a half a foot long and you can clearly see the wood core from a distance. he has to get a peice of base from another ski and super glue it on

^ He's talking about my ski ,you can see the damn core. Makes the gash at the top seem weak.

No bro that doesnt need to be fix it looks fine

You really do need to take that to a shop to get it fixed properly or it just won't work. Base weld is the way to go, like the guy said. I had huge core shots on my Skogens that I filled with epoxy putty and they've held up great, but I'm sure it must slow them down a bit - htey are SO beat up though, so it's cool.

Is that a cracked edge on the right above the gouge? I cracked one on my Skogens too (looked exactly like that at first) and now the edge mounts are ripping through and it's completely fucked. You need to get some shop guys to have a look at that and see if anythign can be done now to save it from getting worse.

metal epoxy wont stick.

if you dont have access to p-tex to fill it right away just fill it with hot wax and that will make a temporary fix.
