Does Replaying Mini DV tapes mess up the picture?

Ive heard this from several people already, but wanted to be sure

I used to have a Sony vx1000 .. I believe relating mini dvs only messes up and pure bad wear on the drum that spins the tapes. Most people with more expensive mini dv cameras like the vx1000 usually have a cheaper mini dv camera to watch replays and convert it onto digitial in fear it’ll mess up the expensive one
