Does nuclear power have a future?

nuclear power is not being phased out. Although there hasn't been any recent construction, there is MAJOR talk about bringing nuclear back because of the whole global warming and how much CO2 is released into the atmosphere

they gotta get the mtn with the hole in it goin to store that waste

then shure

we gotta step it up with wind power tho

shits so efficient now

Wind power requires wayyyyyyy too much land for it to be efficient. It's something like 300 square miles of land to produce as much power as a fossil fuel plant.

Nuclear power is hardly being phased out. Yes, some of the reactors are reaching the end of their life, but there has been major talk about building new ones and expanding the nuclear program. Just you wait.

Nuclear power definitely is being looked away by most engineers and such right now just because of the risk factors involved in producing one. There is research going into safer options to try and find a good solution. Ocean Tide power generators are a really good start to this new energy wave.

yea, your right about the Chernobyl deal, it was completely caused by humans. i was reading an article that described the effort the scientists who caused it had to go to disable the security systems; they literally had to padlock doors, shut down all security systems, etc. it was actually a reading in a book on ethics i read. but no one has mentioned a source of energy found on the moon, its called helium three i think? apparently it provides tons of very clean energy, the problem is just transporting it from the moon to earth.

the thing about nuclear power is that we dont have much of a substitute other than extreme pollutors like coal which the United States seems to be trying to get away from ...i think along with nuclear power, other options need to be considered on a serious level....and that means more money invested into alternate sources such as wind, solar, and water...but their isnt enough of these alternate sources to live....anyway just a thought

Nuclear is the best option over renewable energy sources and others because it has the ability to provide us with all the power we need without using large amounts of land. Plus, the energy from nuclear power can be used to perform electrolysis which seperates hydrogen from other molecules which can then be used in hydrogen fuel cells.

Fusion power is definitely a good looking option. Other than the fact that there's a chance a black hole can be created and suck down the whole universe, but hey at least we won't have global warming!

and the chance of that happening is slim to none if not 0...main problem with fusion now is the temperature and equipment needed to run the reaction. It gets sooo hot and the atoms travel at such great speeds they can punch holes through almost any substance. Now if someone were to discover how to do cold fusion.....

I can see it now... "News today, Nuclear scientists accidentally created a black hole during nuclear fission. According to this, the universe is soon to be sucked into it. AHHHHHH"

I think nuclear power does have a future.

Despite the high costs and the dangerous waste, nuclear power is a solution that can last for centuries and is much cleaner for the air than fossil fuels.

shit i hit tab then enter oops...where was i

you are completely wrong we dont even have 100 years left at the pace were using it, which will probably increase leaving us JUST enough for our generation so we DO need to find another alternative energy source and personally i think hydrogen is our best bet...its the most abundant thing on earth and i think it could be rather cheap but thats just my thoughts...

yeah fusion is ok the only problem is that as of now the only way fusion can happen is at a couple million degrees celsius i.e. in a nuclear explosion. So we would have to be able to produce "cold fusion" before we can think of it as an energy source.

nuclear is simply the best energy source for anyone conscious about the environment. modern nuclear plants are a googleplex more secure than any botched soviet reactor.

france is leading the way, 78% of all of its energy is nuclear. no emissions except for water vapor, and a tremendous amount of energy.

only downside is the nuclear waste. problem solved once we get fusion working.

I agree with nuclear power. As of now, there aren't many other alternatives for energy. Sure, we've made corn into a fuel, but that has greatly increased the price of corn and made it in short supply. Until we make more breakthroughs, nuclear is the way to go.
