Does it matter if park skis are 100% symmetrical

I started skiing this season and I skied the whole year with non symmetrical skis. Does it make a big difference in skiing backwards or carving? And also my bindings aren't mounted dead centre there mounted back a few inches. Does that make a difference skiing backwards and while spinning in the air or anything?

I've honestly like the way a asymmetrical ski with a wider tip than tail carves switch, but some people prefer a symmetrical ski for carving switch. It's all personal preference. And your bindings, do you know how many inches back they're mounted? Most park skis are mounted at the skis true centre or a few CM back at most. I personally ride 1CM back from the skis true centre. It will affect your swing weight some, and if you are a few inches back then you might really feel it. You can certainly still spin though, I wouldn't let your mount hold you back mentally too much. And again it's all really personal preference.

as far as I can tell, saying a ski id "fully symmetrical" is just a selling point for people looking to get into park. they assume they will be skiing switch half the time, so it makes sense for it to be the same forwards and backwards right?

generally forwards/backwards symmetry destroys any facsimile of a park skis ability to carve a turn because turn geometry isn't perfectly symmetrical. you lead with the front contact point of your skis and the rest of the ski follows.

If the ski is contacting at the front and rear at the same angle when you initiate a turn, the front contact point will start to hook; but the rear contact point will also contact the snow, making it nearly impossible for it to follow through the beginning of the turn.

Also, mounting your bindings a few centimeters back from dead center makes carving and general skiing easier, but you probably wont notice a difference in the air or on rails. unless it's extreme, of course.

nope. i never have had a 100% symetrical ski. mount wise, i would definitely move to dead center or just a few CM back

All depends on how you ski and what you like. Maybe see if you can try some out. But honestly it really doesnt make that big of a difference, I went from asymmetrical skis two years ago to symmetrical skis the last two years and really couldnt notice a huge diff

K, thanks. And the last question I have is it alright to remount the bindings on my skis for the third time? I got them used with the wholes filled in then I mounted the binding in the middle between skiing mountain and skiing park. Will it affect the skis allot if I mount them again but in the Centre?

So long as there is enough space between the old filled holes (at least 1 cm) and the new ones it will be fine. People on here will tell you its 3 times only but that is rubbish, So long as the holes are filled correctly and there is enough space between the holes you will be fine. Most skis though will have a limited amount of space to remount so the lack of space may be where the 3 remount myth comes from.

So I bet Ahmet Dadali hates riding Volkl Walls right? because he can't carve his turns in the park which really fucking matters for a park ski.
