Does detuning prevent edge delamination?

Last year my chronics delaminated heaps.

Luckily, I got it warranted and got a new pair.

I was thinking of detuning underfoot, but will this actually prevent edge delamination? Or is it just bad construction which contributed to it delaminating.

Below is a picture of the ski after 3 days of use, with delam already starting to happen.

Detuning park skis underfoot is to help prevent your edge from cracking, whereas this is a bad bond.

Good thing you warrantied them, 95% of the time this is a construction issue and falls under a companies warranty.

A long base bevel on the base edge will help a bit, but nothing will hold out to heavy banging. Learn to be as smooth as possible!

It does help, somewhat. Some delamination is just from a crap batch of epoxy or poor spread in the layup resulting in a weak section, in which case warranty all day.

But thinking about the forces when you're sliding a rail, if your downhill edge catches even slightly then the edge is trying to flip your ski up on it's side whereas your weight is forcing the ski flat which will apply a significant twisting force to the edge, which can result in it pulling away from the layer above. Edges aren't really made to take a downward force.

If you detune the edge underfoot then there's less chance of this happening.

I agree. I mentioned doing a "long base bevel" prior. One may not know WTF I'm talking about so here is a link that will take you to the point in one of my videos so you can understand what a "long bevel" is.

any decent shop detunes edges when they mount i alway ask mine to be extra de tuned so they don't crack and like a duller edge and edge detune has nothing to do with your problem
