im a mad scrawney dude. last winter i worked out and gained some muscle and i played soccer so i stayed in really good shape so skiing and tossing my skis around was never a problem. i dropped 15 pounds since last season out of laziness and working too much. you think i should try to put those pounds back on in my legs or just fuck it and huck it?

I notice a huge difference in my skiing when I'm in good shape. You can recover better, stomp landings better, and rule big mountain riding so much harder if you legs are strong. I'd say get on it, you've only got alittle while left before the season starts. I've been trying to eworkout 6 days a week with a mix of weight lifting and some cardio stuff. I'm stoked and I think it will help out a lot. Also at the start of the season it helps you to not get so tired since your legs aren't in shape yet from skiing. If you want a good workout plan IM me.

Being stronger makes you a stronger skier. It is very important especially on steeper terrain, powder, and good stuff like that.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

being in good condition lets you take harder hits without getting hurt, but i wouldnt know

It helps tremendously... I always have to spend the first week back on the snow getting my legs back in shape, and the next one getting them back in tune with what I'm doing before I'm really in form again. Hockey and other exercises in the off season are really useful.

hopefully football is actually gonna pay off this year.

Jeepers Creepers, where'd you get the neat sneakers?!?!

hehehe giggle giggle giggle

well if im any proof, getting strong then losing it and going into a sport that puts a lot of stress on your knees will absolutely dominate your knees and youll be in pain everyday.

Just play hockey all year, it keeps your legs strong. Rode hard all day Sunday, with no stiffness or complications to speak of. Keep in mind, I'm old and my lifestyle leaves nothing to be desired. (Other than the skiing and the booze.)

think about this.....if your stronger you can jump higher so youll kill the pipe, jumps and urban way more....makes a huge difference. and shit doesnt hurt as much

I sugets following a work out in a skiing mag. Those help strengthen your knees and core strength is important to. I however ski to work out.

my enormus pecs and bisepts help tons with my skiing. they help me bash in the heads of ski patrollers when they try to clip my ticket.

i really dont think it matters, ive seen people rip both ways, but you should have some, in the summer do a couple big ass hikes and it works out for me

helps alot. im sure tanner has strong legs even if they arent huge. and even if not, it doesnt mean it wont help you. best part about beign in shape is you dont get fucked up as easily. if your skiing a lot this winter, do lots of 1?4 squats to support you knees before the season.

Leg strength is extremely important if you ski powder or crud. But I think endurance is more important. Especially due to less oxygen at higher elevations, and a higher probability of getting fatigued.

haha im scrawny as, admittedly it doesnt help being out of shape, but if you ski till it hurts it means your getting muscles, right? so just ski lots and do at least something in the summer. But screw wasting your time on some workout from a mag, you should have better things to do with your time, like go skiing or whatever

If I had more energy, I'd burn that young mans face

depends on snow condition like crud, strong whould be good. and aslo your own techquenic is skiing, strong or nimble

Don't take it for granted

yo man dont worry like if your fat obviously you wont ski as well... im lanky as hell too but i find no difference when i work out... its actually good to be lanky... you can have more style cause muscle can get in the way of your flexibility and shit... im not saying be a lazy ass you should work out once in a while but do leg workouts those are the best things for skiing

word but it just seems like guys who are jacked like dumont are better skiers even in the park because they have so much control over their skis.

i freeride on my bike and it helps because my legs never get out of shape they just get huge, my thighs are quite big and all muscle, sometimes i would like to have scrawny thighs so it would be easier to find jeans, but ya back to the topic, being in shape helps lots, so does stretching for 10-15 minutes before you go skiing

i do tons of mtn biking in the summer along with competitive rugby and soccer so I feel in pretty good shape going into this season.

over the next couple weeks, i'm really gonna concentrate on getting my legs bulked up to see the effects of it on my skiing.

anyways...just do simple things everyday. when i'm watching tv, i do push-ups, crunches, and those things where you lift you legs in the air. i just do a bunch of those during commercials and it really helps!

dumont isnt ripped at all... pretty much none of the skiers are ripped like i said muscle gets in the way of grabs because you are less flexible... Dumont has a body of a 10 year old

^ ha ha ha. Yeah Right. simon could probably throw you through a window. i've seen plenty of injuries (mainly knees) that probably wouldn't have happend if the 'athlete' had been in better shape. and vice versa where strong skiers have had many hurt-free seasons because of being in better shape. so i suppose it does help. especially cross-training.

and being in shape doesnt mean working out. i think its better when you ski a lot and have good strong/flexible skiing legs underneath you. it will better your odds of not getting hurt.

BUT...if you cant ski all the time, get a pedometer at McDonalds with your McSalad and use that to count your steps in the local mall all day. and of course try to improve your score.

fuckin being strong doesnt do anything with your knees you can break bones just as easy when your strong... Ive seen two heavy weight arm wrestling and the guys arm just snaps cause there muscle was stronger than there bones

abma's pretty ripped from what i remember of the last time i saw him shirtless....i dont exactly remember when that was, but i remember it was something i meant to remember...well, i guess i failed

Concept Dude your theory on 'muscles get in the way of flexibility' makes no sense at all. I'd have to go out on a limb and say that's the dumbest thing I've heard today. Look at gymnists, they are flexible as hell and they got tons of muscle. If anything muscle strength is going to make it easier for grabs cuz u can boost higher get your legs into the right position faster.

damn this thread makes me feel fat

'do i look gullable to you , or even a gulla-calf?'

Its also strength to weight ratio. you dont wanna be some oaf powerlifter. the more muscle the more weight to carry around, which makes it harder to move gracefully. Not to say being absolutely scrawney is good, but i think theres a balance
