Does any pro big mountain rider skis his skis centered?

I was just wondering, if everyone, who rides steep lines and jump big cliffs ride skis far back mounted? do you know of any pro who doesnt do this at all?

They aren't necessarily real far back. There is just no need to ski everything centered.

riding pow skis center mounted is stupid, you are fighting the directional shape of the ski, you ski forward more then switch(if switch at all), and the tail doesn't release from a turn nearly as well

But for those of us with symmetrical pow skis I think the ability to easily ski switch in pow is worth the slightly more difficult release of the tails. Neither the difficult release or tip dive are a problem when you pick up some speed anyways.

On some pow skis it can also benefit from being mounted true center to be directley over the camber or middle of the rocker. Old hellbents skied way better true center v traditional imo.

I don't think they are pulling out the center mounted jib ski when they are skiing serious lines. Using Sage as an example. He seemed to go back and forth between the Bentchetler, and the Atlas depending on the line/zone. I doubt he would be center mounting the Atlas. It all boils down to different tools for different jobs. And as stated before. A ski may not be designed to be mounted center.

you'd be surprised. there was an article in freeskier recently about about the Underarmour team trip to british columbia and he was hitting some large pillows and cliffs along side T Rains

i think BC freestyle is quite a big different then the true big mountain OP was referring to. don't get me wrong, BC freestyle (minigolf lines, booters, pillows, cliff bands) is my favorite shit to ski, i just think that true big mountain is in its own category, yaddadamean?

Nice, i found this thread!

I've been wondering how to mount my bent chetlers.

If you are reading this and you think i should mount them centered, let me know.

I have read on other forums they suggested -2.5cm from the center.

What would be the feel in both conditions as i go down bc hills?

Wiley Miller

Wiley almost does. Let me explain.

4frnt yles demensions are in fact symmetrical, but the sidecut isn't. The yles have just a tad more taper in the tips while the tails or more traditional with less taper. So they are symmetrical, but with the tapered tip, it sets back the "center point" of the ski about -2.5 from true center. -2.5 is the recommended point for yles. And I can almost 100% guarantee you that wiley rides the recommended line when he's rocking his 187 yles on big mtn. And maybe if he has a pair of strictly big Mtn YLES he might even mount them farther back.

I would say your better coming a bit back. Center can be fun but you have to ski pretty upright as you do lose the ability to drive te nose so hard. For all round use and have them still be awsome switch I woul go -1.5-2.5cm back

Thanks pietrow!

I will be setting them at -2.5cm!

almost none of the guys you all have mentioned ride a true center mount. yes most of them ride a centered mount, but centered and true center is a world of difference. most of them are from 2cms back to 5cm back, depending on style and the ski they are riding. the only guys that might ride a true center mentioned in this thread are ahmet and willey, neither of which can be classified as true big mountain skiers.
