Does 1mm offset left/right on ski binding mount affect it much?

just got my jeffrey110 mounted and to my naked eye, they seem to be like 0.5-1mm off to the left on each ski and the bindings seem a bit crooked. maybe im just looking into it too much but how much does that matter or does it matter at all
 
Realistically it will not affect the performance of the ski but thats definitely a tech/jig error and id suggest going to the shop and pointing it out to them, especially if its visible to the naked eye
 
yup measured it at home, it’s off a bit. they also mounted the boots forward of recommended but at least both sides is equal forward mount so it’s wtv. still kinds upset abt it

forward of rec isn’t the end of the world as long as it’s not forward of center

no, go to the shop that did your mount and show them that they fucked up. I was a ski tech for almost a decade and fucked up maybe two mounts in those ten years but i was honest and told my manager cost the shop maybe a grand total but I personally could not live with an offcenter mount whether it was my fault for not double checking the jigs its not something that should be "acceptable" even if it doesnt effect the performance of your ski.
 
The 'ah nah it's chill brah' attitude is why shitty shops stay in business. Call em out they fucked shit up. It's not hard to be sober for long enough to measure twice and drill once.

told the shop. they were like “nooo its fine nothing will happen” will try to get a refund and new skis but who knows

alr did call them out but they ain’t doing it shit and i’m tryna get them replaced but they aren’t willing to fork over $900 so idk what else i can do. will try to continue to fight but if it doesn’t work, idk what to do

100% noticeably off center im not in the business of giving a mom and pop ski shop shit but for them to act as if nothing is wrong with that mount is unacceptable. In this day and age its hard for these small shops to stay afloat and i do understand that $1000 to replace a ski they mounted incorrectly will actually hurt their numbers this season, but writing it off as a "not our problem not a performance issue" is also not right either they should be more willing to work with you whether it may not be a replacement but maybe even just an in store credit? im not one to try to sound like a karen in my 30s now but if they can notice and see that they made a mistake they should offer some sort of compensation for it atleast imo.
 
That would drive me insane. Realistically, probably won't make much difference for release but you might actually notice it a bit carving.
 
yup it’s already driving me insane and I haven’t even taken them out yet. will see if i can put up a fight but if i can’t, are these fine or nah

honestly it’s so annoying that the bindings are off. had a gut feeling something was gonna go wrong but didn’t listen to it. abt to off myself fr

I think up to 10-15 years ago, ski techs were a little more seasoned. Nowadays a high ass 18 year old from Burbank, CA is probably the one at the jig.

I say no thank you, i’ll fuck my own skis up if you don’t mind. Sure, the first (and second, and fifth) mount went rough, but I have an invaluable skill now that makes me more of a “skier” than I used to be.

More directly though say the word and NS will troll call this “Viking Ski Shop” out of business

On the lawyer note, see if you can track down anything you signed when you dropped the skis at the shop, as well as any mounting guidance the manufacturer has on their website. If you can find any specific things that they failed to do, or places they failed to hold up their end of a contract (i.e. the shop release form) your lawyer will maybe have an easier time getting your $$ back.
 
You guys will laugh but this is why I have been going to REI. Inevitably, they will fuck up (which they did with my poachers) and when they couldn't find replacement skis, they refunded me the ski price and remounted for free.

As for your local, I would call them out. You may not get the exact thing you want like new skis but they can at least refund you the price of the mount. When someone rolls in with gold pivots and on3ps the tech should put the bong down for a second and realize the owner of these skis probably gives a fuck. Letting it slide is just perpetuating the problem.

Definitely fair point. I think it’s still worth getting that info for yourself so you can throw it back at them if they keep being shitty. You can at least make them think you’re serious about pursuing it, since they’re probably banking on you giving up and going away. If they think you’re going to be a problem going forward they might be more likely to do the right thing, if only to avoid actual consequences.
 
yep i’m gonna keep bugging them and fighting for the money. i still have the papers my mom signed but I looked it over and no where does it state stuff about bad mounts or anything about compensation.

in the future, should i wait to get my skis mounted til I head out west? cause i’m not sure if it’s smart to get skis mounted near chicago lol.

Bring Mom with you to the shop for backup.

It probably was a mistake having them mounted there but how were you going to know? Poor ON3Ps.

I grew up near Aurora, I didn't learn to ski until I left that state and had lived in MN for a decade.
 
if its any consolation, i cant see an issue with the mount and you will never feel a difference. and if there is a difference, your body will get used to it in 2 laps

yup my mom will be coming. and yea if they compensate me, then the next skis i get mounted i’ll probably do it when i go out west or to colorado. and yea they were the last 110-176cm buttersticks left in stock ?

yea hoping i won’t notice it. but i’m still gonna try to fight the shop. paid $900 for buttersticks just for them to fuck it up is something i’m not just gonna let go. but if they don’t budge and don’t compensate me, i’ll be hoping it doesn’t impact the skis.
 
There are two issues at play here. Firstly, should the shop admit this isn't a great mount and compensate you, yes. Given the general suing culture in the states, I'm somewhat surpised they arent bending over backwards to fix this. That said, even seeing the skis I think these responses are important to hold onto.

If you end up skiing these and you can put it out of your head, I very much doubt you will notice. It's not a great mount and it's on an expensive and beautiful ski. But I would be shocked if you swap feet /skis over a few times and especially if you blind tested, you could feel any difference. If it's 1-2mm difference either side, which is what it looks like, I have seen very good (aka pro) skiers ski much worse and never notice.

yea i’m gonna try to get ut fixed and any form of compensation, hopefully full money back but we’ll see. but that is good to know that if i can’t get any compensation, they are still ski able and unnoticeable
 
I have a pair thats slightly crooked and both sitting closer to one side on the edge which is very noticeable to the eye. It was done with no jig haha but yeah surprisingly don't feel it and I forget about it. I swap the skis over with out thinking about it. When I look at them it bugs me out though hahah I ski them pretty hard in the park no issues!

Also at least 5mm off from each other which I hadn't looked at properly until now

Just echoing what Twig said. They fucked up, they owe you, and, more importantly, it seems like something if off on one of their jigs, so they should probably look into that before they mount any other folks skis. This sucks, I'm sorry.

BUT, from a skiing perspective, you won't notice a thing. I've had a roommate ski with skis that were almost a full cm off of center laterally, no problem. I've seen people who's whole job was reviewing skis, not notice that one of their skis was mounted two cm back from recommended. The human body compensates for small inconsistencies pretty seamlessly, you'll still be able to enjoy your sick skis.
