Do you think Redbull is revolutionary to the world of skiing?

revolutionary to skiing? hell yes!

redbull is also revolutionary to the world of sports marketing. They have created a distinct brand out of a sub-par drink and they probably have THE best marketing strategies in the world.

looking for serious responses guys.

i have a friend who knows nothing about freestyle skiing and we are arguing whether or not redbull has been revolutionary to the world of skiing.

for me it's just so obvious but i'm having a hard time getting my point across.

i say that they've created countless new events, built jumps for pros, provided the opportunities for the pros to land new tricks and he counters saying "just cuz they built some jumps and paid a lot of money doesn't make them revolutionary."

i just don't know how it could be more obvious to me... i feel like to anybody associated with skiing, redbull is a completely revolutionary company and has had a profound effect on the sport.

They have sponsered events and other training sessions which helped pros able to do what they could't have done before. Without them skiing wouldn't have progressed as much as it has today

Red Bull the company? Yes, because of all the money they've pumped into the sport.

Red Bull the drink? Fucking of course not.

Explain the jumps and events better. Days-on-end of the some of the hottest features with the hottest publicity, so much filming, so many people, building permanent features for parks, sponsoring whole parks, helicopters. Redbull can spend more money on one event than your friend will make in his lifetime.

No, guys were getting rad long before redbull showed up. Red Bull just put a bigger camera infront of them while they got rad, and had them get rad in more obnoxious places.

red bull could care less about skiing, skydiving, air races, soccer teams...any of them.

What they do like however is that these things bring in money. Lots and lots of money to them. Red bull is in no way trying to progress any of the sports. If they suddenly realized that appealing to a different crowd would bring in more money, then they'd be out of this market in a heartbeat.

yeah BUT, red bull was sponsoring big air comps and freestyle skiers like mcconkey back in like 2000 when no one else on their level had even heard of newschool skiing. They were the first major corporation that had no real affiliation with skiing (like they didn't make skis or anything related to skiing) to get behind the sport, and they are still around.

no fucking shit they like that these sports bring in money. the way that redbull goes about receiving this money is that they themselves pump shit tons of money into the sport to push the limits.

for example, how was the first triple cork stomped? at a private training camp paid for by redbull with perfect jumps and training facilities.

for example, how was the cubed pipe done? at a private pipe cut and paid for by redbull, which by the way probably costed them a shit ton of money.

if you talk to any redbull athlete, they will say that the company really makes them feel like a part of something big and beneficial to the sport. why? not because they are being paid, but because they actually experience such aid on a daily basis

/end rant

Every company's goal is to make money but Red Bull supports new sports from the beginning and helps to make these sports popular. Other companies get into sports when they're already known to a bigger crowd.

Redbull's money has helped a lot, but if they weren't around, it would just be someone else.

Thing is, is that action sports were starting to blow up right as redbull was entering the market. Who was there first? Mountain Dew. But fortunately for Redbull, the idea of energy drinks were also blowing up at this time and at sugar high and caffeine rush were easily associated with sports that make you do crazy shit. At the same time, soda was becoming unpopular and health risks were coming out and a lot of athletes were quitting soda. So Redbull sort of took Mt Dew's throne in which other companies like sobe, rockstar, monster, vitamin water all joined in.

Redbull of course had a great marketing plan and was already doing flutag events. They had already made a billion dollars when they joined into the action sports market. They came in with money and put their name on everything, right as an industry was blowing up. I came into the industry right as it was blowing up... I had been skiing for years, but my first time on a snowboard was in 1998. I was 13. I was listening to blink 18, shopping in skate shops and taking my first laps on a skate board. Redbull wasn't involved. I want to say it was when I was 16 that redbull first came into my ski lodge trying to get us to carry the beverage. We all sat in back saying how it tasted like diluted pixi sticks and making fun of the warning label that read, may cause constipation. When I was 16, the action sports world was seriously exploding. Snowboarding was about to be in the Olympics, Kelly Slater was already a star. Tony Hawk had done his 900. CKY was becoming famous. Redbull entered at the perfect time to market their brand. But the action sports community would have blown up regardless, and with this, skiing.

I will say that redbull has partaken in some awesomely creative events, but to say those events wouldn't have happened without redbull is somewhat ridiculous. It would have been the Sobe Cold Rush or the Verizon Quarter Pipe.

I'm not knocking redbull, I'm thankful for the money they invest and the level of creativity they have had, but I do believe the void still would have been filled had they chosen to go more mainstream with baseball.

Money isn't a revolutionary idea. By throwing money at action sports Redbull has just ensured that their logo will now be seen in all six camera angles that they are paying for. The actual sports haven't changed much due to Redbull's influence.

I seriously think Red Bull has put more money into freeskiing than they have gotten out. This shows that they support our sport a lot. I mean most people I know who freeski don't drink Red Bull, Opposed to a ski company that puts money in will probably get more money out then Red Bull. They put a lot money into our relatively small industry which shows how supportive they are,

In the end, who cares? They have made it possible for skiers t do a lot of cool, new, creative, revolutionary and game-changing things, so yeah I say they were pretty revolutionary!

red bull doesn't help to make them popular, they make them popular on their own by throwing money at it and filming it with 1000 red bull logos in sight of every angle so that it can be used in commercials.

Everything they do is marketing. There probably isn't some committee that sits down with the athletes and discusses what cool new stuff they should do to progress the sport. Red bull gives them money, they do it, red bull owns everything about it and markets it. And as soon as something ceases bringing in money, red bull drops them.

....and on that note, it's slightly disturbing just how much money red bull actually has.

I think it has helped the skiing revolutionary by helping fund all of the competitions and television spots, it also lets the usual gaper or public see how bad ass it is.

People thinking red bull isn't in it for the money...

To be honest, I would think more of an athlete wearing the red bull helmet then the one with Monster or Rockstar stickers. It's just a higher caliber I suppose. They have done an amazing job with exposing action sports, even music. Any time of expression they have really zoomed in on it
