Do you Snowboard?

Ok guys, I get this question asked so often! We are talking about shredding and then someone random says, "Oh, do you snowboard?" and I say "no i actually ski." Typical response: "oh." or, "thats lame" Here's the thing, people always assume ski racing! They NEVER think of park skiing! Like, when you think of snowboarding, you almost always think of the park right? Why can't we get our sport more well known by the public!? I usually just resort to saying yes i snowboard to avoid the conversation of trying to explain that I park ski, not race. Idk maybe I'm just being too uptight...
 
Usually when people give that response when I tell them i ski I just enjoy knowing that I'm probably better at skiing than they are at snowboarding. If they actually ride park, they'll probably understand what you mean.
 
It could be as simple as saying "no I ski park." If they still don't get your point then they definitely don't ride park or know anything about it and at that point it really doesn't matter.

I snowboarded for 6 years before I picked up skiing. It's a lot easier than skiing to start too I tell ya whaaat. So I've been skiing for 6 years now

I stopped snowboarding 3 years ago, wise decision on my part. I've already stabbed like 4 snowboarders since!
 
I don't think I would be a skier if I didn't start snowboarding. I could never afford skis until a few years ago and I thought it looked cool so I gave it a shot. I'm glad I did too because I can easily respect both sports; I'm really over seeing these people hate on the other for no reason at all.

Also who cares. Do whatever you want. Hell theres been a few guys hitting the jumpline in our park the last couple weeks on those snow bikes. Fuck it, do whatever just don't read to much into other people.

The sport is recognized a shit ton compared to the past. The thing is skiing on the rest of the mountain is far bigger and has existed for way longer.

When I say I'm going to the mtn, or I work at a mountain people say "Oh your ski" then I say not really I snowboard mostly. Then I move on with my life.

It's not that hard OP. If this is the worst problem in your life right now you should consider yourself lucky

As for OP, Just tell them you can backflip. The second you mention the b word, the girls(guys) want the d word. The second i tell someone i ski the first thing they say is "can you backflip?". No other trick matters to them, and they always ask about the b.

"Oh, do you snowboard?"

"i can backflip on skis"

"i love you"
 
I'd say the main reason is Shaun White. 2 olympic medals and pure dominance of the pipe. The general public knows who he is. Same with Lindsey Vonn and Bode Miller.

Snowboards and parks were associated long before shawn white won a gold medal, hell even before snowboarding was in the olympics. The parks were built to give snowboarders a place to go and get them the hell away from the normal population. Snowboarding and parks have been tight forever.

Completetly agree. Also the twin tip snowboard, people see that and think oh park.

At Oak we has some winter races and people were hitting some small jumps on the legit bikes.

But yeah I agree, I wish I had one when I was younger. Probably was behind but invented one way back. Never built it though just drew up plans. I might look for some videos, I think I could find some of people throwin down somewhere.
