Do you like your job?

so there was a thread not too long ago asking about what people's job title is and what they actually do. it got me thinking.

What do you do for work? Do you hate it, like it, or love it? and why?

I am a treeplanter. it used to be a love/hate thing for me, but now it's almost all love. I work locally (which is a hard thing to come by in this profession), get paid very well for my efforts, I get to see corners of the Canada that few get to see and most of them are very beautiful. It keeps me in shape, and best of all - it allows me the freedom to take winters off to ski.

I am a fishmonger at a local fish market. Love/hate for me . Love what i do and the people i work with, great boss as well. But hours SUCK. 7-7 weekdays and mandatory satruday and sundays. I hate working on sundays. Also work with a lot of college dropouts who are so fucking dumb and try to get me to do stupid shit all the time. but fuck them

IM A SKI INSTRUCTOR, I LIKE HOW I GET TO SKI ALL DAY

BUT I HATE HOW LITTLE KIDS SUCK AT SKIING AND I HATE ANGRY IMMIGRANT PARENTS WHO CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE BASIC CONCEPT OF A SKI HILL

I work at a grocery store bagging. I hate it. They make you wear formal attire such as a shirt and tie, khakis, and dress shoes. Not that I mind dressing up, but for a shitty 80 year old grocery store? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And it's just extremely boring.

I ski instruct, I'm in Chile at the moment, and I work in Japan in the winters, also worked in NZ, Italy, Switzerland and Colorado.

I love it. Taken me to places that I would never have seen otherwise, improved my skiing no end, people are almost always stoked on the lessons I give. I get 3 months or more off a year to travel, and I actually get paid pretty well. I really can't see myself getting a different job anytime soon.

I'm a lawyer and yup, for a number of reasons. It has its cons but overall, it rocks.

Love/hate thing at the moment. Job is alright when the weathers nice but its been 100+ and humid as fuck for 3 straight weeks and im just wrecked. Its pretty labor intensive but it doesnt really bother me. My boss is also an asshole to work for, but a good guy when youre not working if that makes sense. Love the pay.

other job is a shop mechanic at a local race shop. I'll be building rear ends for drag and stock cars. I start next week but im pretty stoked on it so far.

i'm 15 and work at my dads business (warehousing) once or twice a week. it sucks. we throw damage (one bag of cat litter is broken on the bottom of a pallet of 40 pound bags and so we have to move all the good ones to a new pallet to remove the bad one) and crush cardboard. literally jam cardboard into a machine and then a hydraulic press smashes it into a smaller area. also sweeping things a lot, blowing dust of off pallets going into trucks to be shipped to stores with an air compressor, etc.

the best part is the old people who drive the forklifts and crack smart jokes and me my bro and my cousin all day or driving the forklifts themselves. and watching the maury show at lunch and hearing what said old guys have to say about the people hahahahaha

IN IOWA?

I'D WATCH OUT FOR

I love my job. Work full time as a graphic designer at Salt Lake City Weekly. 3 other peeps in the department who are all badasses. A lot of the work is just production, but it makes the time fly. Go out for lunch and beers almost daily. Pay isn't the greatest, but they make it up in free concert tickets, gift certs, etc...

I work at a ski shop during the winter and take pictures (for weddings and different things) during the Summer for money. It sucks sometimes having a seasonal job (from December to April) but the people I work with are super chill and we get paid under the table which is nice. When it's slow we watch Netflix, play Nerf basketball, or build jumps in the parking lot. We pretty much work whenever and bring in food for each other. Not a bad life.

I despise waking up in the morning because I know I have to go to work. I work in Export Compliance and deal with licenses that the government requires the company to file in order to ship products. But the pay is really good for a sophomore in college so as much as I hate it, I need it.

it's love hate, I don't mind the work, I hate that I have to conform to a work schedule. That's the most hell, 40 hours a week year after year until I'm dead. Or I could work for myself and instead of having a set schedule work around the clock every day stressing about making new contacts, sounds like it's own special kind of hell.

So for now I've been buying up rental properties, hopefully in 10 years or so I can just stop working and live off that income.

I love my job when I get to learn new things, but that does not happen often because my boss is an angry russian. Also stop bitching about 40 hours a week, that's nothing. Nut up and become a productive member of society.

I'm a Flair Bartender, I get to travel the world doing competitons, settling in different parts of the world. I fortunatly found a hobby that turned into work, that turned into a lifestyle. Havent worked a proper days work in 8 years. Wouldn't change it for the world. Traveling amd meeting like minded great people along the way. Friends for life with some of them. Just because I throw bottles around. Yep, Cocktail, Tom Cruise and all that. Cant wait for my next adventure.

Im an ice cream scooper. I like it most of the time, get paid way too much to do it. Its shitty dealing with stupid kids sometimes though

I work at the patagonia store in newport. Its great because i get sick deals on all the clothing, but it can get super boring when business gets slow.

an idea to add to the thread:

post as well how your job affects the amount of time you get to ski during the winter.

my "job" (posted above) hardly affect my skiing time at all because during the winter i have school and can't go in to work with my dad on weekdays. maybe once or twice here or there on a weekend but not too much.

barista at a local cafe. love the job. can get really busy and stressful, and i work somewhat shitty hours (630am 230pm or 230pm-11pm)

I work on park crew.

I get paid to ski through the park and rake shit.

+My boss is on Newschoolers.

#winning.

My job for the past year or so has been video freelance and i love it. Only frustrating thing is the consistency, jobs come and go and luckily this summer some have come right when im starting to run out of money. I get to work from home (unless im shooting obviously) and work my own hours. I can wake up at noon and work throughout the afternoon/evening as late as i want and stop when whenever i want. It can get stressful but shit, what job doesnt.

Used to work in finance for a few years in DC after college. Grew up in VA and hated both my job and living in the east. Quit in January and drove out to Utah, now I basically push paper in Park City and I got to ski until July. The job itself is nothing special, but it allows me to live in an awesome place so I can't really complain.

I just started training for backcountry.com and I am SOOO stoked.

Needless to say, a huge percentage of the employees are outdoors oriented already, the company revolves around gear. They ski, board, bike, climb, etc. It's a pretty solid community.

So I highly doubt I'm going to hate this job at all, I honestly can't wait to work more.

i work at a ski area year round. winter is driving the park cat and i get a lot of hours and its on my own schedule. summer i do whatever has to get done. weedwacking, building motocross trophies, maintaining the track, in the next week i start digging a new snowmaking pond.

its really a love/hate, i love the winter, but in the summer, the hours get to me. cant go out and do anything at night except on fridays because i have to be there by 8am and it doesnt always end at the same time, sometimes im out by noon and sometimes ill be there till 6pm. but i love the winter so its all good.

i fucking love it, so much. 40+hour weeks pouring wine, giving tours, and just doing oddball tasks. some of the best people i've ever worked with

im everyones bitch in a kitchen so i do the shit no one wants to. IT FUCKING SUCKS! im 6'4" and i always hit my head on shit. defintly not worth minimum wage.

I'm a chef, here. www.thegourmetgals.com

Private cheffing, catering, and working in the little deli we have. I love it for the most part, but it's stressful dealing with all the retardedly rich people here, and cooking more than I ever thought was possible in 8 hours.

work at wines of colorado. restaurant serving fancy rich old people. makes me wanna go to college FA SHO

im a lifegaurd at a beach no one goes to, so i get to lay on a beach tanning and taking naps, every once and a while watch some people swim

word! MIght be applying there further down the road...

I work in online advertising for Google. See that ad to the right of this post? Or see those ads whenever you search for anything on google? Or see an ad when you are trying to watch youtube (and then get annoyed)? Thats my job! I work with about 40 clients as an account manager, basically a guy who helps businesses spend their ad dollars in smart ways.

I like it for a lot of reasons, I work in downtown San Francisco, awesome people, great manager, tons of perks, fun happy hours, cool free stuff, good salary, and I am learning tons about advertising, tech, and business is general. I've been at this job about a year, and will definitely stay for a few more years. But, I do feel like there is something missing in my life.

I dont like sitting at my desk all day Monday-Friday, and I am not the biggest "techie" per se. Eventually, I would really like to get involved with business but related to the outdoor or environmental industry. I majored in environmental studies so think it would be cool to get back to what I think is the most interesting. But for now, and coming right out of college, no complaints!!!

i work at a ski shop. absolutly love it. anything to do with skiing is awesome. ive been getting new product and doing inventory with it. i wear what i want and i get to hang with the older guys (20's)that i hang out with at the shop during the winter. its really fun work

and did i mention its a SKI SHOP!

I help out in the kitchen at a pizza place..but I mostly wash dishes. They got me working one night a week though and it just so happens to be the busiest of the week. Its an alright job. At least its gonna pay the ski bills this year.

Dont like my job so much, i work at a local restaurant picking up trash, washing tables, cleaning stuff, its very laborous but my boss is the man and the people are nice so its livable and i work good hours so i get good $$$, its dece

lifeguard

like working with friends/chill people and fairly easy job. dont like cleaning bathrooms doing trash and minimum wage but its all good

i love my job, im a tennis instructor and half the time im just joking around with the kids and the other half... joking around with the kids while playing tennis

I'm the social networking manager for a ski company.

It's cool cause I work for a ski company, It's cool I get free skis and shit, but I don't like gettingbitched at by 12 years olds wanting a sponsor. FUCK I had a mom call me once and asked me for a full ride sponsor ship for her son.

Anyways, overall it sucks and I will soon be passing it over to another NSer.

I also umpire baseball games, college level to little leauge. Good pay, and it's fun.

I am a camp counselor at the camp i've been going to since i was 6. i absolutely love, everyone is best friends with each other and even though i get paid less than an immigrant agricultural worker, i love my job.

interning at the same recording studio that greenday recorded all their recent albums since warning at...im not getting paid but i love it

I love everything about my job except for getting dirty as hell. I basically crawl into WW2 amphibious vehicles (DUKW) that are used for tours and grease zurts/do basic mechanic work on them. I get to drive them around up around the shop which most people don't get the privilege to do. The whole company is a big community which is sick.

i have a couple jobs....
car wiring: i like it alot but it can have its bad days(etc when any luxury SUV or limo is brought in)
landscaping: I hate it but it pays well
moving: i like it when the people are nice
detailing: hateeeeee it. but again it pays well
