Do you like your college?

I'm a junior in high school right now and am starting to look at colleges. I know everyone says don't go to a college for the skiing, but I at least want to go somewhere that I can ski even if the mountain isn't that great. So if you guys could help me and a bunch of other NSers who I'm sure are in a similar position to me out by answering a few questions about your college that would be sweet.

I'd like to know stuff like what kind of grades/SAT scores you need to get in, how far away are the closest mountains and are they any good, overall how do you like it etc. Thanks

Find a good spot to ski. Buy a house there. Skip college. Charge NSers beer or food to stay on couch at said house. Live the good life.

I'm not going to a college that doesn't have any skiing at all. I don't care if the skiing isn't great but skiing is one of the few things that I couldn't live without for 4 years, especially knowing that after college when I get a job my ski days are very limited. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find a great school for me that also has a mountain near it

University of Pittsburgh at J-Town 5 min away from my house and 45 min away from 7springs. Good school with good skiing pretty close.

I was going to go there but didn't i go to St. Vincent and it sucks I hate it only thing to look forward to is skiing at Springs

I have the best college

it's my name spelled backwards. also to give some more details i live in pennsylvania, and would prefer to stay on the east coast so I don't have to fly back and forth from home. And not trying to sound like that guy who doesn't care about getting the best education possible, but i reeaaallly would like to go somewhere that has any skiing within 30 minutes or less (doesn't matter if it's shitty as long as they at least have a park)

I go to the university of Oregon. The school is good. Sports are insanely fun to watch. Weather is just okay. Our freestyle ski team is basically just a bunch of kids who like to hang out and shred bachelor. Overall it's good for skiing and also great as a school

Middlebury in VT has its own ski hill i think? Or maybe thats dartmouth? Either way both very highly regarded schools with excellent academics and skiing nearby

I go to an auxiliary campus of the University of Washington, and it kicks the shit out of the main campus.

uw bothell?i got my fake id from a dude who goes there.

im going to go to msu next year unless i get a better scholarship from a school in colorado.

reasons for that school:

1)honors college

2)engineering

3)good skiing

4)good partying

Every college has good partying. If someone says theirs doesn't, they aren't good at partying.

Except some community colleges

Yup. There's an awesome environmental program at UWB. My biggest class has been 48 kids and the profs know everyone by name, even the freshmen. Also helps that we have a big wetland on campus, and are really close to some decent forested areas. I've taken a few classes at the main campus. Most of the buildings are really shitty and old, and the profs don't really care. I will say that my experience in music school at the main campus has been pretty awesome though.

I'm gonna bump this cuz I'd love to hear about more colleges. Just tell me what college you go to, do you like it, and the closest mountain/how far away it is. Thanks for any replies

We are friends, I totally agree. Its one of the best decisions ive ever made coming here, other than the skiing...but the ski club here goes on trips every three weeks basically and some are fucking sick. We've been to Mont Tremblant the past 2 years place is awesome. They are going to Jackson Hole for SB

Northern Michigan University.

Love it here in the U.P.

-Marquette Mountain is 5 minutes away with an amazing park

-Good education for a good price

-Really cool people and Marquette is just an awesome place

-Tons of outdoors activities to do all 4 seasons.

-Right on Lake Superior

-Really good mountain biking trails all through the U.P.

-And last but not least Mt. Bohemia is a hidden gem only 2 hours away where it dumps up all winter long, in the keweenaw peninsula, they dont groom, and you can shred some really great powder. Oh yeah and a season pass is $99.

I need to be in a place where I can do the things I love to be happy. I had some of the best days of skiing in my life while in Uni. If skiing is a priority for you right now don't stop doing it for school.

I did my undergrad and am doing my masters at UBC. Tuition is still affordable for americans. This year I've been on snow 3-5 days per week between Whistler and Seymour, (some of that was coaching). Its all about time management, but skiing can be done while studying.

I go to Pitt and I love it. an hour from springs and we have a pretty rad club that attracts multitudes of park riders. the feel of the campus is also really nice--youre in the city but not downtown so it is not too overwhelming

Awesome post, thank you so much. Mountain that's 5 mins away for a good price? Sounds like this and Appalachian state university are my top choices right now

If you pick up your pass in like mid summer its around $250ish. People hit urban around town a lot too and you can always find a ride to the hill if you don't have a car. I wanted a place with good skiing and not outrageously priced that still had a good education and I am really happy with choosing to come here.

Thanks for the info man sounds awesome, I looked at the school website and it'll definitely be one of the schools I consider. Do you live out of state and if you do how much do you pay for out of state tuition per year?

Nah I am from downstate Michigan, so I am instate. I have a close friend that is an out of state student I can ask him and shoot you a pm if you'd like.

app state has horribly shitty snow, no vertical. good news is all the girls are easy and the partying is good. no idea how the lift rates are though

Good skiing or good school, pick one. No half decent college has good skiing within 20 minutes and no half decent ski hill has a good school within 20 minutes.

I find this hard to believe. Also it doesn't have to be great skiing. I'm just looking for somethings that's close and has at least a decent park
