Do skiers lead the way in producing media content

During peak editing and video seasons (now through the falll) do skiiers produce more media content than any other action sport? I feel as if more ski videos get dropped on a weekly basis, amateur or pro, than any other action sport. I also don't know skating very well so I could be completing wrong. Either way its sick to come on Newschoolers everyday and have 5-8 quality videos to watch.

I don't think skiers produce more, just skiing/boarding have it mostly condensed into one time of year. That and from what I've seen NS is really a leader when it comes to media platforms for action sports so pretty much all content in freeskiing gets put on NS making it easy to view all awesome edits in one place so browsing NS makes it seems like skiing has far more awesome edits.

The berrics doesn't have am content though does it? Its all pro stuff?

I do agree that other sports have a way better output of professional content, but skiing has a very specific advantage in the am/semi-pro element.

Mainly: The fact that you're a skier means that there is a 95% chance your family has wealth. With this wealth you can get a fancy camera and a macbook pro for christmas when you decide to start making edits either of yourself or your buddies.

Chances are at least someone in your crew will fit in this category.

If you're a skateboarder from the slums no chance.

So I actually do feel that skiing specifically (as the richest sport in the world including yachting and golf) has a real upper hand on the rest of them for the ability to create tonnes of sick am edits.

Youtube sucks though for watching edits. Usually the same 10 videos come up in the suggested side bar or the same videos come up no matter what you search. Not to mention everything that shows up has gopro or red bull somewhere in the title or description. Not to say they aren't good edits, just not what I'd be looking for. You have to really search for what you want on youtube. I can't speak for the other sites because I haven't visited them, but with NS it's like everything is right here in one spot. Also, the quality of edits uploaded on here is fuckin amazing. It isn't too often I come across a "bad" edit. NS members, the content team, and just the overall set up of this site make it so perfect.

the problem isn't in the cost of equipment, you can find a ski/binding setup for easily under $50 if you look, anyone who lives in a snowy area probably has a jacket and maybe snowpants already. Ski boots can be found cheap but thats kind of a gamble in regards to fitting well enough to make the person not quit on the spot. But if you go to a more remote town hill you'll see lower/middle class families skiing since its probably the only thing to do.

Skiing simply isn't the first thing that comes to mind as an activity when you live in an urban area like most people, and "cool" skiing doesn't have the exposure to make people want to try it.

true, the closest thing skateboarding has to ns is slap, and thats just a bunch of people hating on each other and everything else.

well in a developed country yeah, because basically anywhere along the coast is a high cost of living. But developing nations like Brazil, surfing is much like skateboarding as it offers an escape from reality.

I get your point....but serious soccer is very expensive. You have multiple grand for clubs/even more for travel, $200-300 for cleats....and balls are actually very expensive....like $100ish.

my post was more referring to the start up cost to start each sport. Not the cost of being good at it

No one is arguing skiing is cheap - it could be if you were super committed and prepared to just go BC skiing in tent forever. It's expensive by any measure and definitely prohibitive in this regard.

Sports where you have to be a member of a club to actually compete, i.e. tennis, golf, etc. all have costs but skiing isn't a necessarily "wealthy" sport. Yes, you have to have some money to do it but you don't have to be dirt rich and I certainly wouldn't categorize it as a rich white mans sport. Its more a middle class hobby.

So it comes down to that skiers usually have the money to buy cameras and editing equipment and the fact NS is a central hub for all skiing media content are the reason that so many edits and videos exist. Definitely unique compared to any other sport's media and its fucking awesome!!!

Aside from the random assortment of summer backyard edits, skiing cannot compare to year-round sports such as skating or bmx. Edits are dropping throughout the entire year from around the world from flow riders, ams, and pros alike. While skiing does have a lot, there is much more from these action sports outlets.

Trust me sailing is more. Even if one does like a "intro" camp or learn to sail program it is still about 80-100$ and cost for clothing bathing suit/drysuit or whatever is necessary, pfd etc. and then after that either joining a club or buying a boat is a lot plus all the other things you will need. I honestly feel that like bishop said i would consider golf and skiing, surfing etc. kinda in the same price bracket but yachting/sailing or maybe even like car racing in one above.

What the hell type of family did I miss out on? I grew up getting ski pants from the lost and found at our hill and when I started making edits my parents told me to get a job.

Don't get me wrong, I know not everyone was like this - but skiing has an extraordinarily high proportion of well off families in it.
