Do mountain mermaids exist?

Ah, the legend of the mountain mermaid. I have not seen one myself but I have heard they swim in the fresh mountain lakes high above the tree lines of the Rockies. On a good snow year the lakes are deepest and they flourish from lake to lake making it difficult for us humans to spot them. If spotted though, do not look them directly in their eyes as you will turn into a dead tree stump. Legends say they use to walk amongst us until Go Pros were made, someone caught one on video on VHS before they were turned into a stump. Their big box VHS camcorder was found years later with the only proof of one existing. I still believe!
