Do filmers get paid?

Probably a dumb question and/or too hush hush to air out in public but:

Do filmers get paid by the skiers/sponsors? Guys like Owen, Ethan, and Gavin are traveling and working with tons more of different skiers/crews all winter and then editing like 4 mini movies per season themselves. I know filmers will work hard in the summer to save up and shit but making a movie is a ton of work. I imagine they get paid to some degree?

I obv don’t know shit but since the movies they make have very little commercial value it probably doesn’t pay that well

if a video is sponsored by brands, some of that money would be spent on paying the videographer(s) and editor(s) but the amount could vary dramatically based on a number of factors. would be interested to get a first-hand account from somebody

i really don’t know much about this stuff but i can tell you with absolutely certainty they do get paid and probably pretty well especially if they edit and depending on how big the sponsors are. they can’t possibly be professionals if they aren’t making decent money.

There are a few different scenarios but in the end, yes filmers get paid.

You don’t need to drop numbers but some of the different arrangements would be interesting

Im a filmer and my rate is $200 per hour filming and editing. The little cocksuckers that want sick sponsor me videos have been paying for my gambling addiction with their parents credit cards and lets just say it pays well

I'd be curious to know too but I doubt any filmers are gonna hop on this thread and mention numbers lol

I don’t film but I make $25 an hour as a machinist apprentice. Your welcome

This was said already, but if a video is being sponsored or a skier is getting paid, the filmer will be making money too. Some filmers will work with sponsors directly, sometimes they'll work with the athlete, etc. There are a ton of different ways this can work and it can be different for every filmer. It's fair to say if you're watching a video that isn't a cellphone video being filmed by another skier/friend/coach, they're probably getting some sort of compensation.

Travelling and such is usually covered too, but in the case of a street film, the crew is paying the bills and hopefully there are sponsor dollars to reimburse that situation, but I know of plenty of filmers/skiers in the past having to cover their own costs travelling to film, for big and small crews.

The only situation where a filmer isn't making money would be a small/up in coming crew that isn't substantially sponsored yet, homies filming each other, or just a group of friends/skiers that are working together to make a film and nobody is making money in that situation.

Not to hijack the thread but $25 as an apprentice? Goddamn, I made $17 as an apprentice.......fuck I looked at the calendar and just realized I was an apprentice 15 years ago ? so maybe that is right. Godspeed, being a machinist can either be the coolest shit ever or morally break people. I've seen a lot of the ladder in my time, mostly due to bad ownership though.

Doug had to sell NS to pay [tag=38820]@eheath[/tag] so yes, filmers do get paid.

It seems like an industry where everyone is making wayyy different amounts. It completely depends on who you wanna film, where you wanna film, and who you want to sponsor it. I feel like that is why fillers don’t talk about it too much.

back in my coaching days, i was making edits constantly in my free time, so i'd say $0 is the base pay
