So this past weekend i went over to a buddies house and we ended up staying in his basement blazing and spinning records all weekend long and now i'm hooked. This leads to my question if there are any of u guys who spin/spun? that know what the best kind of tables to get is ( i'm talking vinyl here none of that cdj bullshit)

If there are certain types of tables for a certain sound i would also like to know these differences since i have pretty much slim to none knowledge in this

also would like to know how much cheddar i'd have to drop on a deecent set of tables and mixer

matters if you wanna just get a good set to start, or a bomb ass setup for over a grand. a good starter one would cost around 500-600. dont get belt drive they suck. and just keep practicing. its hard to get any good so just master beatmatching and move from there.

search google for "dj forums" go to the beginner section. it has so much information and will answer all your questions.

dj equipment is rediculously expensive so beware

Get technics MK5 or MK2 look on ebay you can def get them used and they are still sick they last for ever. Also cd tables are now sick and can do so much fun shit. I know vinyl is cool and all but spending 12 bucks on records gets kinda old. American DJ Pro scratch ttables are sweet and not as expensive as the others. Ive got 2 technics and 2 Pro Scratch 2 I love both but the whole vinyl age has been fading for awhile i know it sucks but thats the way it is. Go vinyl but if you ever wanna take it anywhere your gonna need to go cd or even digital at some point.

i don't know man, I had vinyl for years then switched to the serato scratch live and it was the best change I every made, feels a little different, but you can use any song from your computer... plus its only like 600 bucks for the whole system.

i think i'll only be interested in spinning hip-hop can u still get that scratch noise with cd's these days

i know cd's will be a whole wack load cheaper and i'll be able to access much more music with cd's cause theres some stuff you just can't get in vinyl so maybe one tt table and one cd?

Yes you can get the same scratch noise from CD's. Go look at either some pioneer CDJ's or Denon's DN-s3500's. I think yuo should go with Serato and run a pair of Technics. All Technics are pretty much the same basic layout with a few minor details. Rane just came out with a new mixer, TTM-57 I belive. This mixer has the serato software built in, so no extra connection box laying around. Plus this almost eliminates the usage of a key board, because the mixer allows you to control your computer.

and $3k later, he can have a better setup than most club dj's, even though he doesn't have a clue what he's doing......

Technic's are ridiculously overpriced, and aren't even that good compared to the pioneers.

just go with a beginner setup. look for a dj packages on certain websites from numark or stanton, etc. they have starter packages that come with 2 beginner style direct drives, mixer, and headphones all for a round 400$. its not the most glamorous setup but its a good one to start out with esepcially if you dont really know what youre doing yet. i know for my first setup i went with cheaper equip b/c i knew id beat it up somewhat. now im looking to upgrade. and just practice a ton b/c it takes a really long time to even start to vaguely resemble scratches you hear from good djs.
